I’ve always thought the fusions in Dragon Ball were one of the most creative parts of the series, and a recent fan animation imagining a new one is blowing up online – and for good reason! Dragon Ball has been delivering amazing transformations and powers for over 40 years, ever since it first appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump. And the fusions, where characters combine to create a completely new fighter, are consistently some of the most exciting moments.
We’ve seen many powerful characters created through fusion in Dragon Ball – like with the Fusion Dance and Potara Earrings. Goku has fused with Vegeta, and Trunks and Goten have teamed up, but we’ve never seen what a fusion of Goku and Gohan would look like. Now, artist LederleJR has created an incredible animation of this fusion, and it’s quickly become popular with fans. You can watch it in action below!
What Would Happen If Goku Fused With Gohan?
As a huge Dragon Ball fan, it’s always bothered me that we’ve never actually seen Goku and Gohan fuse! It’s been hinted at, sure, but it’s never happened. The thing is, their power levels have always been a little off. Goku always knew Gohan had incredible potential, and we’ve seen Gohan reach amazing heights, but Goku rarely gets to witness his son fully realize that power. Even when Gohan was at his strongest, he always seemed to be just a step behind his dad, which is a shame!
We’ve seen Gohan reach incredible power with his Beast form, but we haven’t gotten a good look at how Goku, with his Ultra Instinct ability, views it beyond a brief practice fight in the manga. However, if Gohan and Goku could combine their powers – as some fans theorize happened during the fight with Majin Buu – they’d become an incredibly strong fighter. It’s true that visually, the combined form wouldn’t be drastically different, considering they’re father and son.
Would This Fusion Change Things?
It’s fun to consider what would have happened if Goku and Gohan had fused instead of Goku and Vegeta during the fight with Majin Buu. While Vegito was incredibly powerful and easily defeated Super Buu (who was already stronger after absorbing Gohan), imagining a fusion of Goku and Gohan – perhaps called “Gokan” or “Gohu” – is intriguing. They’d likely have been just as strong, and possibly even stronger, thanks to Gohan’s potential unlocked through his Mystic Form.
The story would have felt more satisfying if Gohan had continued fighting after defeating Cell. He spent the Majin Buu arc trying to regain his former strength, and a fusion with his father could have been a great way to put him back in the powerful role fans anticipated. It initially seemed like Gohan would become the main hero after the Cell saga, but ultimately, things didn’t turn out that way.
