D&D’s New Hellfire Club Box Set Could Be Just the Beginning for Stranger Things Collab Content

Wow, this year has been HUGE for Dungeons & Dragons boxed sets! First, we got the massive Heroes of the Borderlands starter set in September. Then, just when I was still getting used to that, they dropped another Stranger Things set! The first Stranger Things D&D set from 2019 is getting hard to find now, which makes the upcoming Welcome to the Hellfire Club set for 2025 even more awesome – especially if you’re a fan of both D&D and the show. Honestly, I’m hoping this means we’ll see even more cool crossovers in the future!

The Hellfire Club boxed set provides everything you need to play a tabletop adventure inspired by the show. It combines storylines from Eddie’s adventures with the world of Dungeons & Dragons and Stranger Things, letting fans experience both. Considering how much Stranger Things has boosted the popularity of D&D, this collaboration feels natural. The creators have even suggested that this might not be the only time these two universes cross over.

Welcome to the Hellfire Club Is D&D‘s Second Stranger Things Collab & It Might Not Be the Last

Pete from The Character Sheet recently interviewed Justice Ramin Armin and Kara Kenna, the lead designers behind the newest Dungeons & Dragons boxed sets. They discussed what sets these two beginner sets apart from each other and shared insights into how both were created. While D&D has always offered starter sets for new players, these latest releases are a bit different from what fans are used to.

As a new D&D player, I was looking at both Heroes of the Borderlands and Welcome to the Hellfire Club to help me get started, and they’re both good options, but definitely different. Heroes of the Borderlands is a huge kit – seriously, it’s packed with everything you could need if you’re completely new to D&D. It also has a cool new character creation system using tiles, which is different from the Stranger Things set which uses more standard character sheets. Welcome to the Hellfire Club isn’t quite as comprehensive as the traditional starter set, but it really nails the 80s, Stranger Things atmosphere. It’s all about that vibe!

According to Kara, Creative Director for Dungeons & Dragons, the Stranger Things set was designed to let players feel like they were playing D&D with Eddie Munson. While the Starter Set teaches you how to play D&D, Welcome to the Hellfire Club immerses you in the world of Stranger Things through the game. The set’s components, like the DM screen, were specifically created to resemble the materials Eddie would have used in 1986-1987, but with a fresh, updated design for today’s players.

This new Stranger Things boxed set could be the start of more collaborations between Dungeons & Dragons and the show. This is the second time they’ve created a Stranger Things set together, leading fans to wonder if more is on the way. When asked about future content set in the Stranger Things world, Kenna and Arman didn’t reveal any concrete plans. However, they shared that they enjoyed working with the Stranger Things team and are interested in collaborating again.

Arman expressed strong interest in working together again, suggesting that Welcome to the Hellfire Club has only begun to explore the full possibilities of its characters. While nothing is confirmed, it seems the team behind this D&D and Stranger Things project would consider creating more content like it in the future.

You can now purchase D&D: Stranger Things – Welcome to the Hellfire Club for $49.99 from D&D Beyond and other popular stores.
