Christian Horner is moving on from Red Bull Racing Formula 1.
Geri Halliwell’s spouse has been dismissed from his role as the main executive and CEO of the team, following 20 years in this position, according to a statement issued by Red Bull on July 9th.
As an ardent admirer, let me share this exciting news: From today forward, the dynamic force behind Red Bull Racing’s success, Christian Horner, has been relieved of his operational duties. Stepping into those shoes is none other than Laurent Mekies, who takes up the role as CEO. It’s a bittersweet moment for us fans as we express our heartfelt gratitude to Christian for his unparalleled contributions over the last two decades. Red Bull Racing made this announcement to TopMob News.
Certainly, the racing team affiliated with the energy drink company highlighted the significant role Horner played in enhancing their achievements.
Through his unwavering dedication, years of knowledge, technical skills, and creative problem-solving, Christian has significantly contributed to making Red Bull Racing one of the top and alluring teams in Formula 1. We are grateful for everything you’ve done, Christian, and your impact on our team’s history will always be remembered.
TopMob News has reached out to Horner regarding his firing but has not yet heard back.
Horner’s tenure concludes midway through the Formula 1 season, marking more than a year since he was exonerated of unsuitable conduct following accusations by a coworker.
In response to the issue, Red Bull stated that the complaint was found to be unsubstantiated. They further expressed their belief that the investigation carried out was thorough, objective, and free from bias.
Details about the accusation leveled against Horner remained private, yet he firmly declared his innocence in response to the investigation, denying any alleged misconduct.
At the time, Horner clearly stated to CNN that he categorically rejects all claims brought against him. He added that a procedure is underway, which he’s dealing with currently. Unfortunately, he couldn’t discuss it any further, but emphasized his involvement in resolving this matter.
In 2015, Horner married Halliwell, and during the investigation he acknowledged her support by saying, “She has been incredibly supportive and will continue to be so.” This was shared with ITV at that time.
In 2005, Horner signed with Red Bull Racing, amassing an impressive record of 124 wins, 287 podium appearances, eight drivers’ championships, and six constructors’ titles according to a statement from the company. Previously, this seasoned racer, who embarked on his professional journey in the ’90s, publicly dismissed rumors about Ferrari attempting to recruit him, instead professing his allegiance to Red Bull Racing.
He stated that it’s pleasing to be linked with other teams, but his dedication, without a doubt, lies with Red Bull. This has been the case since the beginning and will continue to be so indefinitely.
