Next month, Doctor Who enthusiasts have something to look forward to: the BBC is releasing a remastered version of the 1972 adventure, ‘The Sea Devils.’ This updated edition will be available just before the Sea Devils make their comeback in a brand-new spin-off series called ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea.’
I’m so excited! They’re releasing a fantastic, fully edited version of one of my favorite Jon Pertwee stories! You’ll be able to watch it on BBC iPlayer starting at 6am, and then it’s going to be on BBC Four at 7pm on Sunday, December 7th. It’s all been put together as one amazing 90-minute special, which I can’t wait to see!
The Sea Devils will return in a brand new series that same night at 8:30 PM, available to stream on BBC iPlayer and watch on BBC One.
Let me tell you, this new edit is a game-changer. They’ve taken the original six parts and really streamlined it, giving it a big, cinematic feel. The sound is completely refreshed thanks to Mark Ayres, and the music is brilliant. They’ve cleverly blended the iconic 1972 score by Malcolm Clarke with brand new pieces from Lorne Balfe – it’s like a perfect connection between the classic Doctor Who and everything that’s come since. It really works!

The Sea Devils, written by Malcolm Hulke and directed by Michael E Briant, features Jon Pertwee as the Doctor during his time on the show from 1970 to 1974. Katy Manning appears as his companion, Jo Grant, and the story also includes Roger Delgado as the Master, a villain who had already become a fan favorite.
Russell T Davies, the showrunner, hinted at an exciting event: the Sea Devils are returning to the BBC after 52 years! He playfully warned viewers of all ages to ‘watch the seas,’ suggesting a thrilling adventure is on the way.
I’m so excited! They’re showing a special that leads right into two episodes of ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea’! It’s all about the monsters finally coming back, and honestly, it’s the biggest we’ve seen them on screen in ages – decades, even!
With ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea,’ featuring Russell Tovey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Jemma Redgrave, Disney will conclude its partnership with the BBC to create and distribute ‘Doctor Who’ and related shows.
Doctor Who will be back for a Christmas special in 2026, penned by Russell T Davies. Fans are eager to see how the story resolves the cliffhanger ending where Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor transformed into a character portrayed by Billie Piper.
Doctor Who is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
