As a longtime follower of Marvel, I’ve always been fascinated by the question of who’s worthy to wield Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. That moment when Steve Rogers lifted it during the battle with Thanos in Avengers: Endgame was truly iconic. But recently, something completely unexpected happened. Someone outside the Marvel Universe has been deemed worthy! Thanks to a new crossover event with DC Comics, Thor actually shared his power with another major hero, and honestly, it’s a game-changer. It’s wild to see this happen and really expands what’s possible with these characters.
The new digital comic, Thor/Shazam, features Thor’s human identity, William Blake, suddenly losing his powers. While dealing with this, he’s transported to meet DC’s Captain Marvel and the wizard Shazam. To help Blake regain some power, Billy Batson (Captain Marvel) uses his magic word, allowing Blake to transform into Thor even without his hammer, Mjolnir. In a surprising turn of events, Billy can also become Captain Marvel by hitting Blake’s staff on the ground, proving he’s worthy to wield Mjolnir and accessing the power of Shazam.
Marvel avoids the typical superhero conflict by having Thor and Captain Marvel team up against a common enemy. Thor has lost his powers, stolen by the villainous Mr. Mind, who can even wield Mjolnir. While both Captain Marvel and Mr. Mind are now ‘worthy’ enough to lift the hammer—though Mr. Mind’s worthiness is achieved through trickery—the story has a surprising twist. It also reveals that the historical figure William Blake is worthy, and briefly able to summon Mjolnir with his staff instead of lifting the hammer itself.

The DC Heroes That Were Worthy
I was amazed to learn Captain Marvel isn’t the only DC hero who’s lifted Mjolnir! Everyone talks about Superman doing it, and it’s so cool. I remember reading about the JLA/Avengers crossover where he actually got to hold Thor’s hammer and lead the heroes against this huge threat to both universes. Honestly, it wasn’t a shock that Clark Kent was worthy – he’s Superman, after all! But it turns out he wasn’t the only one who could wield that power, which was pretty surprising.
In the classic Marvel Vs. DC crossover, Wonder Woman briefly demonstrated she was worthy to wield Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, becoming a temporary God of Thunder. Although she didn’t use this power when battling Storm, she proved that several heroes in the DC Universe possess the strength and character to lift it. She eventually returned the hammer to Thor.
Following the popular team-up of Batman and Deadpool, DC and Marvel have continued to explore crossovers between their iconic characters. While Thor/Shazam didn’t get as much attention, another digital-exclusive comic, The Flash/Fantastic Four, brought together the Scarlet Speedster and Marvel’s First Family to battle classic DC foes. These recent collaborations demonstrate that, despite previous crossovers, there are still fresh and exciting ways to combine these two universes in the future.
