As a lifelong Disney fan, I always loved those movies growing up, but looking back, a lot of them were genuinely creepy – especially when I was a little kid! I get why some adults find them a bit too sweet or even irritating, honestly. That’s probably why it’s become so popular to take those classic Disney stories and twist them into something totally different, like horror movies. It’s a fun way to play with something familiar and give it a spooky new edge.
As a movie buff, I’ve noticed something really interesting happening lately. Classic Disney films, like the original Steamboat Willie that introduced Mickey Mouse, are now in the public domain. That means filmmakers can legally use those characters without worrying about copyright issues! Because of this, we’re seeing a wave of horror remakes of beloved Disney movies, and it looks like there are even more spooky takes planned for the future, starting in 2026.
5) Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare

Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare is a horror film reimagining the classic Peter Pan story. It portrays Peter as a dangerous criminal who lures children to Neverland, not for adventure, but with deadly intentions – framing his actions as a twisted version of taking them to a magical place.
This disturbing film deals with extremely sensitive and violent subject matter, including the exploitation, drug abuse, and murder of children. It’s intended for viewers who enjoy intensely graphic horror and features scenes of mass violence, such as the deaths of a busload of children, and disturbing acts of mutilation.
4) Winnie-The-Pooh Blood and Honey 2

The follow-up to the horror film Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is fun, but doesn’t quite live up to the original and feels unnecessary. Following the surprising success of the first movie, Twisted Childhood Universe created a sequel where Christopher Robin flees the Hundred Acre Wood to seek assistance.
Following a terrifying event, the once-friendly animals of the Hundred Acre Wood turn menacing and begin targeting people. Christopher Robin struggles with the trauma but ultimately returns to confront Pooh and Piglet in a final, dramatic battle. Like the first film, it’s designed to thrill fans of horror movies, but with a unique twist: the monsters are characters people grew up loving.
3) The Mouse Trap

A horror film called The Mouse Trap, which reimagines the classic Steamboat Willie as a slasher, was revealed just as the original entered the public domain. The filmmakers had to strictly base their version of Mickey Mouse on his earliest design, as later versions of the character are still protected by copyright.
Unlike parodies of Winnie the Pooh, the horror film The Mouse Trap doesn’t portray the famous character as a killer. Instead, the murderer is the manager of an amusement park who wears a Mickey Mouse mask. The movie follows a typical slasher formula – people are trapped in a park with a villain – and doesn’t offer much new beyond its use of a Disney character as the antagonist. Despite this, a sequel to Mouse Trap is planned for release in 2026.
2) Winnie-The-Pooh Blood and Honey

The first Winnie-The-Pooh Blood and Honey movie takes the familiar children’s story and transforms it into a horror film. It’s unsettling to see the characters become villains – they’re driven to it because they get so hungry they even eat Eeyore, a character who never got enough attention anyway. However, this desperation at least explains their violent actions later on.
After Christopher Robin leaves for college, his childhood companions are left to fend for themselves and become hostile towards humans. The movie is very violent and centers around attacks on a group of college women who unknowingly vacation in the creatures’ territory – the Hundred Acre Wood.
1) Bambi: The Reckoning
While always a bit unsettling due to the early death of Bambi’s mother, the movie Bambi was ripe for a horror reimagining, which is exactly what Bambi: The Reckoning delivers. The film starts like the classic Disney version, with the loss of Bambi’s mother, but quickly spirals into a dark turn of events, ultimately leading to Bambi becoming a monstrous killer after drinking tainted water.
This movie flips the original Disney story on its head: instead of being hunted, Bambi is the hunter. This creates a thrilling fight for survival between Bambi and the humans he attacks, and it’s a much more unique and engaging concept than typical slasher or monster films.
