Andrew Garfield’s Divisive 2025 Thriller Gets a Streaming Release Date (After It Went Overlooked in Theaters)

Critically acclaimed actor Andrew Garfield, known for roles in films like The Social Network and The Amazing Spider-Man, stars in a new movie with a particularly impressive cast. Following his recent success in Spider-Man: No Way Home and the popular film with Florence Pugh, Garfield now shares the screen with Julia Roberts. The movie had a limited theatrical release earlier this fall and will soon be available to stream.

I was really surprised by the reaction to Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt. He directed Challengers, which I loved, but this one opened in theaters on October 10th and got a pretty mixed response. It didn’t do super well in theaters, only making around $9 million despite having a lot of great people involved. Now, thankfully, it’s coming to Prime Video this Friday, so I’ll be able to check it out from home!

Amazon MGM Studios revealed that After the Hunt will be available to stream on November 20th, just over a month after its release in theaters. Considering the film received mixed reviews and didn’t perform well in cinemas, it’s not unexpected that Amazon is quickly making it available for streaming. The last new Julia Roberts movie that went to a streaming service, Leave the World Behind, became one of Netflix’s biggest hits.

“After the Hunt” is a dramatic thriller exploring accusations of abuse and subsequent cover-ups within a university setting. The film stars Roberts and Garfield, alongside Ayo Edebiri, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloe Sevigny. Luca Guadagnino directed the movie, based on a screenplay by Nora Garrett.

The movie follows Alma, a Yale professor played by Roberts, as a scandal erupts when her student, Edebiri, accuses a close colleague – who is also Alma’s former lover and best friend, Garfield – of sexual abuse. As everyone keeps secrets, and the truth remains unclear, the lives of those involved begin to unravel.

Critics had a varied reaction to After the Hunt before its release, and it currently has a 37% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, movies that deal with challenging topics often split audiences, and a Rotten Tomatoes score isn’t always a reliable indicator of whether you’ll like a film. Considering its talented cast and director Luca Guadagnino’s track record, After the Hunt is definitely worth checking out when it becomes available on Prime Video this weekend.
