That ‘Sexy Assassin’ Look In the New NCIS Episode Should Be A Throwback For ‘Longtime Fans,’ According To Sean Murray

Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS episode “Page-Turner” are ahead!

Since Season 4 of NCIS, Sean Murray’s character, Timothy McGee, has been secretly writing the Deep Six book series under the name Thom E. Gemcity, creating characters based on his NCIS colleagues. While the books and Gemcity have appeared in a few episodes, a recent episode took things further by having the actors portray characters from the books. Sean Murray revealed to TopMob that Katrina Law’s character, described as a “sexy assassin,” was designed as a nod to longtime fans of the show.

In the episode “Page-Turner,” McGee is drugged and kidnapped by a woman who holds him captive, demanding his help in locating her missing son – a fan of the Deep Six book series. Due to the drug and a possible concussion, McGee begins to hallucinate, seeing his team members as their fictional counterparts from Deep Six. For example, Jessica Knight appears to him as Agent Nightshade, a ruthless character described by Rick Soares as someone who acts without hesitation. Sean Murray explained that actress Katrina Law, while playing this altered version of her character, was outfitted in a striking black bodysuit.

When Katrina arrived on set in that leather outfit, it immediately reminded me of a running joke for long-time viewers. After Kate Todd’s character died, McGee had daydreams about her – specifically, he imagined her wearing a black leather dominatrix outfit. Seeing Katrina in a similar look, I realized the show was revisiting that old gag. It was a fun callback for those who remembered!

If you’re unfamiliar with the show’s history, Sasha Alexander’s character, Caitlin Todd, was one of the original five main cast members on NCIS and was killed off at the end of Season 2. However, Alexander returned for a special two-part episode at the start of Season 3, where her teammates each imagined interacting with her. In one scene, McGee first pictured her wearing a black catsuit, much like the one Katrina Law wears in an episode called “Page-Turner,” and then later as a dominatrix.

Sean Murray really understands what McGee finds appealing, based on the last twenty years of the show. However, with Agent Nightshade, while she was seductive, the focus was more on her willingness to use force to resolve issues. She, Rick Soares, Professor Parkman (Gary Cole as Alden Parker), and KC-3000 (Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines) worked together to understand the woman’s connection to the case – a stolen hard drive containing classified documents. To make matters worse, Vance’s counterpart comically made the situation worse by waking McGee up with two slaps.

Sean Murray’s favorite moment involving a character transformation goes to Brian Dietzen’s Jimmy Palmer becoming “Pimmy Jalmer” – a version of himself with a ponytail. This happens at the start of the NCIS episode “Page-Turner,” where Pimmy is trying to rescue a scientist who could stop a dangerous, flesh-eating virus. If you didn’t catch the episode when it originally aired on CBS, you can now watch it on Paramount+.
