Kaitlin Olson Memorizes A Bunch Of Wild S–t On High Potential, But There’s At Least One Time She Cheated

As a big fan of Kaitlin Olson, I was really surprised – and impressed! – when she took on the lead role in High Potential back in 2024. It’s such a different vibe from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which I adore, but she totally pulls it off. She came back for a second season in 2025, playing Morgan, a super-smart cleaning lady who ends up consulting for the LAPD. From the very beginning, her character has to spout off all sorts of random facts and numbers, and Kaitlin recently admitted she had to sneak a peek at her notes once to get through a particularly number-heavy scene – she called it ‘fully cheating,’ which I found hilarious and relatable!

In an interview with Esquire, Kaitlin Olson described balancing her role on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia with motherhood for much of the year. However, when she read the script for High Potential, she was immediately drawn to the complex lead character – a highly intelligent, unpredictable woman working with the LAPD. Olson recalled a time before High Potential became a success on ABC, when she had to take a shortcut to get things done.

In the first episode, I completely relied on help to remember all the numbers – like when I was pretending to add up groceries. If you watch closely, you can see little Post-it notes with the numbers all over the place, and I’m even glancing at the ham to figure out what comes next! I don’t regret it at all – there’s no way I could have memorized everything, and you can’t just make up math as you go along.

Like many viewers, I missed the subtle clue – a quick glance for post-it notes – when I first watched the ABC pilot. Even rewatching it on Hulu, it was still hard to catch! The scene brilliantly introduced Morgan’s character as a smart, resourceful woman and a mother to three unique children. It was a strong start to the pilot, demonstrating her range beyond comedy – although she certainly brought her comedic talent, as seen in her work on shows like Abbott Elementary and Always Sunny.

Kaitlin Olson explained that even when she learns lines for Morgan to deliver during scenes with Karadec and his team, she forgets them almost immediately – usually within 20 minutes of finishing the scene.

It feels incredibly full up there, but I don’t think I’ll ever get dementia. People often do crossword puzzles to stay sharp, and I’m confident I won’t develop Alzheimer’s.

The popular drama High Potential is currently on a winter break after its midseason finale aired on ABC in late October. It will return on Tuesday, January 6th at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. When it comes back, High Potential will air between new episodes of Will Trent (at 8 p.m. ET) and The Rookie (at 10 p.m. ET), all on ABC. New episodes of all three shows will also be available to stream on Hulu the day after they air.

Aside from wondering what will happen after that shocking season finale, I’m really curious if Taran Killam will return as Ludo. He was a major character in season one and showed up in the first couple of episodes of season two. However, he’s now a regular on NBC’s show Stumble, which is a comedy presented as a documentary about cheerleading. So, we’re eagerly awaiting news about Ludo’s return, just as much as we are for the rest of the cast – Morgan, Karadec, and everyone else – when the new season arrives.
