Marvel is being very secretive about the next two Avengers films, which is typical for a project like this. Fans are eager for information, and there are a lot of unanswered questions. Several familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, like Mark Ruffalo, Brie Larson, and Benedict Cumberbatch, weren’t included in the cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday. However, the biggest surprise is that Tom Holland won’t be appearing, especially since he has a solo Spider-Man movie coming out shortly before the film’s release.
It makes sense that Spider-Man won’t be involved in the next major Marvel event, as he’s currently operating independently. The upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, will focus on his adventures teaming up with characters like the Punisher and the Hulk to fight new villains. However, the addition of Sadie Sink, the star of Stranger Things, has everyone online buzzing because her role is still a secret. While many theories are circulating, there isn’t enough information to determine what part she’ll play. Recent news, though, might finally reveal Sink’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what it could mean for the story.
Sadie Sink’s MCU Role Is Starting to Reveal Itself

Whenever a red-haired actress appears in a Spider-Man movie, it sparks a lot of speculation. The immediate assumption is often that she’ll be playing Mary Jane Watson, but Zendaya already fills that role perfectly, so that’s not happening. This leads fans to consider other red-haired characters from Marvel, like Jean Grey, and recent news about her potential return in Avengers: Secret Wars has added to the rumors. However, it would be difficult to explain why Jean Grey would be in New York without the X-Men. Ultimately, it’s clear that the actress is playing a significant, red-haired character connected to Spider-Man, and without MJ as an option, one name really stands out as a likely candidate.
Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson’s relationship in Marvel comics has faced huge challenges, like divorce and loss, but also joyful moments, such as the birth of their daughter, Mayday. Mayday, a red-haired girl who inherited her father’s superpowers, eventually embraces the responsibility that comes with them and becomes a hero. The recent film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse features a version of Mayday who is enthusiastic and helpful, even though she uses a wheelchair. While some fans suggest casting Sadie Sink to play Mayday in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, believing the opportunity is perfect, it would actually be a poor decision.
Mayday Parker Isn’t What the MCU Needs Right Now

If Marvel Studios introduces Mayday Parker, the simplest way to connect her to the existing Spider-Man story would be to make her the daughter of Tobey Maguire’s and Kirsten Dunst’s characters. While Spider-Man: No Way Home shows their relationship is thriving, it doesn’t confirm whether they have children, leaving the possibility open. Mayday might be seeking her own identity and decide joining forces with a former teammate of her father is the best way to do so. This idea works well, especially with rumors that Maguire might appear in future films and share more about his personal life. However, introducing Mayday could create a lot of complicated storylines that are difficult to resolve.
Bringing Maguire’s Spider-Man and his family into the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could hinder Tom Holland’s progress as he’s finally starting to establish himself. He already struggled to emerge from Robert Downey Jr.’s shadow, and introducing another popular, well-loved actor risks creating the same problem. This could be a mistake, so it would be better for the MCU to have Maya Hawke’s character be entirely new and unconnected to previous Spider-Man stories.
Avengers: Secret Wars hits theaters on December 17, 2027.
