Although Cartoon Network is traditionally a cable channel, it’s adapting to the streaming era. Many of its shows are now available on streaming platforms, and some even debut there directly, skipping television altogether. Recently, a popular Cartoon Network series returned with a sequel that surprised many viewers. After the first season, the network quickly announced that the second season would be available on Hulu, and it’s arriving sooner than anticipated.
Fans of The Amazing World of Gumball got a treat this summer with the arrival of its sequel, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, on Hulu. The new series continues the adventures of Gumball, the blue cat, without significantly aging the characters. The second season is set to premiere on December 22nd, just in time for the holidays! Viewers in North America can watch on Hulu, while international fans will find it on Cartoon Network and HBO Max in February.
Gumball’s Past, Present, & Future
After a seven-year break, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball is back with the original creators returning to Cartoon Network. In a recent interview with Animation Magazine, co-creator Matt Layzell explained that the team aimed to continue the show’s story where it left off. They wanted to deliver more of the same beloved characters and storylines, while also finding ways to improve and introduce new adventures. Their goal was to create a season that was as good as—or even better than—what fans already loved.
I was really pleased to see the new series of Gumball bring back all the original voice actors – Alkaio Thiele as Gumball, Hero Hunter as Darwin, Kinza Syed Khan as Anais, Teresa Gallagher as Nicole, and Dan Russell as Richard. It’s common for animated shows to get renewed for a second season, and I’m curious to see if Gumball will get a third. It was a bit unexpected to find the latest series on Hulu, since Cartoon Network usually puts its shows on HBO Max, but animation is still really popular with streaming services, so it makes sense given how well-loved the show originally was.
