Jenna Bush Hager is letting some presidential secrets slip.

The Today show host shared that her father, former President George W. Bush, isn’t a regular, enthusiastic viewer of her work – she’s been hosting the show for over 16 years.

Jenna revealed on the November 19th episode of her morning talk show, Jenna & Friends, that she frequently asks her dad to co-host. However, he often responds with comments like, “I don’t even watch your show!”

The president’s surprising confession made his co-hosts – Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, and Carson Daly – burst into laughter. Carson even joked, “That’s why we love him.”

After spotting George W. Bush on a recent episode of the Manning brothers’ Manningcast, Jenna Bush Hager is hoping to persuade her father to appear with her on Today. She’s even considering a public appeal, saying, “I’ve asked him before, and maybe I’ll try asking again publicly, since he is my father.”

The 43-year-old, who has three children – 12-year-old Mila, 10-year-old Poppy, and 7-year-old Hal – with her husband, Henry Hager, explained, “He had said he was retired, so I was just as surprised as anyone to see him on Monday night.”

Savannah pointed out that getting the politician to appear on the Manningcast was likely simpler than expected. He didn’t have to travel to New York, and could join the broadcast remotely from his art studio in Texas.

That suggestion sparked an idea for Al, who proposed, “Why not take the show to Texas and broadcast from there?”

Jenna worried about the cost, asking if they could afford it, but Craig joked that they should be able to manage, considering they were dealing with a former president.

At one point, Al jokingly suggested they could each get a new iPhone, and even volunteered to accompany Jenna to her interview.

And while she was grateful for all the suggestions, Jenna laughed, “I’m sure he’ll still say no.”

President George W. Bush’s television viewing habits, particularly his watching of Today, were frequently discussed on the show. In 2017, former host Kathie Lee Gifford even directly asked him if he watched his daughter’s segments every day.

“No,” he said. Jenna quickly added, “Dad, you’re meant to agree! You promised last night you’d pay attention to me.”

But as President Bush noted, “She said everyday.”

He admitted to watching Jenna on the show from time to time, and made it clear how proud he was of her.

He and his wife, Laura Bush—who are also the parents of Jenna’s twin sister, Barbara—shared more about their pride during an appearance in 2021.

“I never imagined she would be a star,” he gushed, “and we’re very proud of her and love her.”

However, the ex-president and his daughter aren’t the only ones sharing surprising information—here are some of the most shocking celebrity confessions.
