Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s daughter is ever the entrepreneur.
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, shared that her four-year-old daughter, Lilibet Diana – or “Lili” – often interrupts her meetings. She explained that Lili will climb onto her lap, even when she’s discussing serious business like finances or creative projects.
She told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview published on November 19th that she enjoys working from home, especially because her office is conveniently located right next to the kitchen. She described it as a real perk.
Because Lili and her 6-year-old brother, Archie, are at an age where they easily absorb what they see, Meghan, 44, is working hard to set a positive example as a businesswoman.
As a mom to young children who are learning and growing constantly, I see them tackle big challenges every day. This makes me realize I need to be kind to myself as a business founder, too. I’m learning that perfection isn’t possible, and it’s okay to make mistakes – for both of us.
Meghan pointed out that striving for perfection isn’t enjoyable, and asked, ‘If you want to have fun, why bother trying to be perfect?’
That’s why the biggest lesson Meghan wants her kids to learn is bravery.
She went on, saying she hoped others would recognize the importance of courage. She felt he was particularly fearless, adding that people often become less bold as they age.

You know, one of the things I adore about my husband, Harry, is his incredible sense of fun. He really approaches life with a childlike wonder and playfulness, and it’s something I find so endearing.
Meghan explained that she felt a strong connection with her husband, whom she married in 2018, and he encouraged her to embrace her playful side. This has carried over into all aspects of their life, including their work, where she wants them to be creative, have fun, and explore new ideas.

He explained to Sky News in 2015 that having a family shouldn’t be rushed, and would happen naturally. When asked if his niece, Princess Charlotte’s birth, made him consider starting a family, he said he definitely wanted children someday, but there were steps you had to take before that could happen.

I remember reading how Meghan talked about a special purchase she made years ago, thinking ahead to her future daughter. She’d always loved the Cartier French Tank watch, and when Suits got picked up for a third season – which was a huge moment for her back then – she treated herself to the two-tone version. She even had it engraved with ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ as a sweet message, and she’s planning to pass it down to her daughter someday. It’s such a lovely, thoughtful gesture!

I’ve always been fascinated by Prince Harry’s perspective on becoming a father. It’s been something that’s clearly been on his mind for a long time, even before he met Meghan. He actually told People magazine back in 2016 that he’d have moments, especially while traveling, where he’d really want to start a family. But then other times, he’d feel completely overwhelmed and think he wasn’t ready at all! He was very honest about going back and forth on the idea, admitting there were definitely times when the thought of having children put him off.

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement in 2017, they gave a joint interview where they discussed having children. Prince Harry said they hoped to start a family soon, and Meghan smiled in agreement.

Meghan described becoming a mother after Archie was born as ‘magic.’ She added that she felt incredibly happy to have her two wonderful sons.

After Archie was born in May 2019, Harry excitedly shared how incredible the experience had been. He expressed deep admiration for mothers and said he and his wife were overjoyed and thankful for all the love and support they received. They were eager to share their happiness with everyone.

During a 2019 speech at the National Youth Mentoring Summit, Harry spoke about what becoming a father had taught him. He emphasized the significant impact of role models, even those who don’t realize they’re inspiring others. He explained that these individuals can motivate people to be kinder, more successful, and make a bigger difference. Harry shared that becoming a father gave him a new understanding of this, as he knows his son is always observing and learning from his actions and example.

In 2020, Prince Harry explained that his child is his top priority, followed closely by his work. He and his wife are committed to doing everything they can to contribute to a better world.

Despite the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, Harry and Meghan found a positive side: more time with their son, Archie. Meghan explained in October 2020 that without the pandemic, they would have been traveling and working more, and would have missed precious moments watching him grow. They were grateful for the extended family time.
Harry shared, “We both witnessed all of Archie’s firsts – his first steps, when he started running, even his first tumbles.”

In May 2021, Meghan appeared on television for a special event called VAX Live, hosted by Global Citizen. During the show, she talked about being pregnant and how happy she and her husband were to soon have a daughter. She shared, “We’re so excited to welcome a daughter, and we feel that same joy as millions of other families.” She also expressed hope that her daughter would grow up with the opportunity and encouragement to help lead the world.
She explained that the future success of our leaders—and all of us—hinges on the choices we make today and the steps we take to build a fair, kind, and thriving future for everyone.

Meghan briefly appears in an episode of her husband Prince Harry’s Apple TV+ series, co-created with Oprah Winfrey, called The Me You Can’t See. While on screen, she seemed to honor her children by wearing a shirt with the message, “Raising the Future.”

The couple recently announced the birth of their daughter. In a statement on their Archewell Foundation website, they shared their joy, saying that their daughter, Lili, is everything they hoped for and more. They expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and well wishes they’ve received from around the world, and thanked everyone for their kindness and support during this special time.

Meghan Markle’s first children’s book, The Bench, will be released on June 8, 2021. The book celebrates fathers and is told from a mother’s point of view. Meghan shared that it began as a poem she wrote for her husband on Father’s Day shortly after their son, Archie, was born, and eventually grew into the story it is today.

I remember reading Meghan’s letter back in October 2021, and it really resonated with me. She explained why she supported paid parental leave, and she shared how incredibly happy – and a little overwhelmed – she was when her daughter was born. It was during the pandemic, and things were so different at hospitals and schools, making an already huge life change even more challenging. It felt so real and honest, and it really highlighted why paid leave is so important for all new parents.
Unlike many new parents, we didn’t face the difficult decision of returning to work shortly after our baby was born. We were able to stay home with her during those important early months and focus entirely on our children and family. This meant we didn’t have to struggle with impossible choices about childcare, work, and healthcare, which so many families deal with every day.
Meghan explained that no family should ever have to make such difficult choices. No one should be forced to choose between working to support their family and being able to care for a child, a loved one, or even themselves – something a comprehensive paid leave program would help prevent.

In April 2022, Harry mentioned that it was very difficult to balance his work-from-home life with being a parent.
He mentioned that Archie interrupts their Zoom calls more than anyone. He added that Archie is frequently on the calls, which is good.
Harry realized he was already seeing his own playful sense of humor in his son. “I make a point of maintaining that,” he explained. “I believe a bit of mischievousness is what keeps you feeling young and engaged with life.”

Meghan admitted she was concerned for her—and everybody else’s—kids in the age of social media.
During a talk at the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit in October 2023, she shared that being a mother is the most important part of her life, second only to her relationship with her husband, Harry. The summit focused on mental wellness for parents in the digital age as part of Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day celebration.
Honestly, it’s just… everything she says gets to me! When she talked about the kids being young right now, I felt such relief – it’s not something they have to deal with right now. But then she admitted she’s scared of how things are changing, and how it’s inevitably coming for them, and it just broke my heart. I feel like she perfectly captured the worry all of us are feeling!
As a parent, Meghan observed how quickly time passes, saying ‘the days feel long, but the years fly by.’ She also pointed out that everyone is impacted by the internet and social media, and that ultimately, we all just want to feel secure.

During a visit to Lightway Academy in Abuja, Nigeria in May 2024, Meghan told a group of kindergarteners that her daughter, Lili, is very small. Lili is almost three years old, and recently, Meghan said, Lili looked at her and realized she saw her own reflection. Lili then told Meghan, ‘Mama, I see me in you!’
Meghan explained that the other person was being very direct. However, Meghan interpreted those words in a deeply personal way, realizing, ‘Yes, we truly understand each other and see ourselves in one another.’
