All Creatures Great and Small fans have been given an early Christmas present by 5.
The popular period drama, based on James Herriot’s stories about being a veterinarian in the Yorkshire countryside, has been renewed for seasons 7 and 8. Viewers can also look forward to two additional Christmas specials.
Greg Barnett, a commissioning editor at Channel 5, praised the series as the network’s most prized drama, hinting at exciting new storylines and memorable experiences for the characters and viewers.
Susanne Simpson, Executive Producer for Masterpiece, also expressed her excitement about continuing the series, highlighting its heartwarming, optimistic, and funny qualities.
According to Melissa Gallant and Sharon Moran, the Executive Producers of Playground, viewers often write to say that All Creatures Great and Small has been a source of happiness and support during difficult periods, highlighting the show’s positive impact.
The show is a joy for both viewers and those who create it, and we’re excited to continue filming new stories with our fantastic team in the lovely Yorkshire countryside.

All Creatures Great and Small is Channel 5’s most popular drama series so far, attracting over 14 million viewers in its first five seasons. It also brought more new subscribers to the channel’s streaming service than any other program.
We’ll share more information soon about what’s coming in the new seasons and which cast members will be back. However, we anticipate seeing Nicholas Ralph as James, Rachel Shenton as Helen, Samuel West as Siegfried, Callum Woodhouse as Tristan, and Anna Madeley as Mrs. Audrey Hall.
Each season, the show introduces many new guest stars. Most recently, Lucy-Jo Hudson and Chris Gascoyne, both known from Coronation Street, appeared. Also joining the cast was Gaia Wise, Dame Emma Thompson’s daughter, who plays Charlotte Beauvoir, a new romantic interest for Tristan.
But in the meantime, there’s the 2025 Christmas special to enjoy.
The story takes place at Christmas 1945, the first Christmas after the war ended. Helen isn’t feeling well, so James has to step in and organize the annual Nativity play in Darrowby.
Elsewhere, Siegfried is visiting Hilda the goat at Mrs. Stokes’ farm – she’s been getting into trouble again! Meanwhile, Mrs. Hall is focused on winning the local darts competition, hoping to claim the first-place prize: a turkey, which is hard to come by because of the war.
The housekeeper at Skeldale is encouraging everyone to improve their skills, hoping it will help their prospects. However, a surprise visit from an old friend throws her and Siegfried off balance, leading the vet to make a significant choice about what he wants to do next. At the same time, Tristan and Charlotte are becoming increasingly close.
If you’re looking for even more to enjoy this Christmas, there’s a special hour-long documentary called All Creatures Great and Small: Behind the Magic. It shows what it’s like making the show and features all of your favorite actors.
The cast is reflecting on six years of creating the hit drama series, and Graeme Hall – known as the presenter of ‘Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly’ and a professional dog trainer – has enjoyed feeling like part of the family and seeing all the work that goes into making a show he loves.
This delightful holiday offering gives you a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ series.
