The hit Netflix action series The Night Agent is being renewed for a fourth season even before the third season has premiered. While fans are still waiting for news on the release date for Season 3, Netflix is already working on the next installment.
According to reports, the popular series The Night Agent is relocating production to California, likely because of a tax incentive, which strongly suggests a fourth season is planned. Furthermore, the writing team is already back at work, even though Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed another season. Everything indicates a continuation of the show is highly probable.
The first season of The Night Agent was filmed in Vancouver. Later seasons moved production to New York, with additional filming taking place in Thailand for Season 2 and Türkiye for Season 3. Season 4 will see filming expand to California.
I’m really enjoying The Night Agent! Critics seem to like it too – it has an 80% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Though, it’s interesting that regular viewers like me only give it a 58% rating right now. It’s still a good watch, though!
The Night Agent Shakes Up Cast for New Season
A main cast member is leaving The Night Agent. According to reports from September, Rose Larkin, played by Buchanan, was a crucial part of the show’s storyline, assisting FBI agent Peter Sutherland (played by Gabriel Basso) in exposing a government conspiracy.
D.B. Woodside, who plays Amanda Buchanan, won’t be back for season three of The Night Agent. While promoting her new Apple TV+ series, Chief of War, she explained that although the show was fantastic for her career – especially as a lead actress on an American series coming from New Zealand – the writers decided to focus the storyline on Peter and the consequences of the events at the end of the previous season.
Buchanan added that while we won’t see what happens with Rose’s storyline, he’s optimistic about the show’s future and hinted that Rose might return someday, so it’s not a permanent farewell.
Shawn Ryan, the creator of The Night Agent, addressed Luciane Buchanan’s exit from the show, hinting that she might return in the future.
Luciane has been a wonderful part of the Night Agent team for both seasons so far. Her performance as Rose Larkin, and especially the connection between Rose and Peter, has been key to the show’s popularity.
From the beginning, we planned for the show to feature a different story and set of characters each season. Unfortunately, the story we developed for Season 3 didn’t offer a good role for Rose, which we regret.
Ryan hinted that there might be more to the story of The Night Agent and its characters, particularly Peter and Rose. He expressed hope that Rose will be able to return to the show’s world in the future.
The Netflix series The Night Agent, based on the book by Matthew Quirk, follows Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent working a low-importance job in the White House basement. His routine changes when the emergency phone he monitors finally rings, uncovering a dangerous plot that reaches the highest levels of power.
Season 3 of The Night Agent will welcome David Lyons, Jennifer Morrison, Stephen Moyer, Genesis Rodriguez, and Callum Vinson as new main cast members, alongside Gabriel Basso.
The first two seasons of The Night Agent are now streaming on Netflix.
