Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Faces Major Issue After Recent Update

The recent movie, Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, has been very successful, combining events from the Shibuya Incident Arc with the first episodes of the new season. The upcoming season will explore what happens after the Shibuya Incident, revealing why Yuta Okkotsu is determined to kill Yuji Itadori. Before the main story continues, the anime will also cover the Perfect Preparation Arc, leading into the intense Culling Game—a battle royale planned by Kenjaku. As excitement builds, new character designs and the voice actor for Master Tengen have been revealed.

Though featured in Gojo’s backstory, Master Tengen wasn’t formally introduced until after the Shibuya Incident. He was the central figure driving the events of the flashback arc and will continue to be important later in the series. Even with limited appearances, Tengen is a key and enigmatic character. Some fans worry that using the same voice actor for both Tengen and the narrator might be confusing in the English dub.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Master Tengen Has the Same Voice As the Narrator

Initially, the Jujutsu Kaisen anime didn’t use a narrator, unlike the manga which depended on narration to tell the story. The creator, Gege Akutami, preferred it that way. However, the animation studio, MAPPA, found it challenging to present the story effectively with its unique style. With the complex abilities and fast-paced events of Season 2, they decided to add a narrator, Yoshiko Sakakibara. This proved to be a good choice, as fans found it easier to follow the techniques and understand the complicated events of the Shibuya arc.

I’m so excited for the next season! The storytelling through narration is really going to be key, especially because the Culling Game Arc absolutely needs it to work. And I was thrilled to hear Sakakibara-san is voicing Master Tengen! It feels like a really intentional choice by the studio, which makes sense given how vital Tengen is to the story. He’s this incredibly powerful, immortal sorcerer who basically dedicates his life to protecting Jujutsu High by maintaining these crucial barriers from within the Tombs of the Star Corridor.

This sorcerer was originally a woman, but achieved immortality and became genderless after their body was damaged while trying to connect with the Star Plasma Vessel. While their original appearance wasn’t shown in the main story, the creator, Gege, did share an illustration in an extra volume. However, the English dub adds some confusion, as the character is voiced by a male actor, Kirk Thornton, who also provides the narration.
