Fantastic Four Can’t Top This Legacy Sequel With A 74% On Rotten Tomatoes

Okay, so The Marvels did pretty well at the box office, which is great! But honestly, as a fan, I was a little surprised by the reviews. It ended up with a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, and while that’s not bad, it felt a bit lower than I expected for a Marvel movie, especially one trying to continue a previous story.

According to FlixPatrol, Freakier Friday is currently the most popular title on Disney+, surpassing The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Both shows are performing better than Zootopia 2 | A Special Look, A Very Jonas Christmas Movie, and The Devil Wears Prada. While Freaky Friday remains at the bottom of Disney+’s Top 10, Freakier Friday has held the number one spot as of November 21st.

Both of these movies are either reboots, remakes, or sequels. The Fantastic Four: First Steps essentially restarts the Fantastic Four series as the team joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after previous attempts weren’t very successful. It’s a better film than Freakier Friday, earning an 86% approval rating from critics. Most viewers and reviewers agree that The Fantastic Four: First Steps is the strongest live-action version of the team so far.

The new movie, Freakier Friday, brings back Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan for a sequel to the 2003 hit Freaky Friday, which famously involved a mother and daughter switching bodies. While critics weren’t overly impressed, audiences loved it, giving it a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie’s story, according to Rotten Tomatoes, centers on Tess and Anna as they deal with the complications of blending two families, and suggests the body-swap situation might happen again.

The Fantastic Four Will Return In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Although a third Freaky Friday movie isn’t currently in the works, the Fantastic Four are officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a huge team-up. After dealing with Galactus and protecting Franklin Richards, they’ll team up with the Avengers, the Thunderbolts/New Avengers, the X-Men, the Wakandans, and other heroes in Avengers: Doomsday. This movie continues Marvel’s trend of bringing characters together from across the multiverse, but it will also introduce a brand new, powerful threat. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to release in theaters on December 18, 2026.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Freakier Friday are now streaming on Disney+.
