Avengers: Secret Wars Might Be Teasing a Reunion 44 Years in the Making (& We Hope It Happens)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for a massive team-up in Avengers: Doomsday. With the powerful Doctor Doom as the villain, heroes from across the Marvel world – including the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four – will join forces. While characters like Captain America and Cyclops have similar leadership qualities, and Johnny Storm and John Walker might trade playful banter, they’ve never actually met. What makes these big Marvel movies so enjoyable is watching characters connect, share their pasts, and forge new relationships while facing a seemingly impossible threat.

The upcoming Doomsday movie will revisit some important character relationships. Captain America and Bucky Barnes, who were once close friends, will find themselves disagreeing about the legacy of the Avengers, leading to familiar sibling-like arguments. However, the film will also finally bring Loki and Thor together on screen for the first time in seven years, since Avengers: Infinity War. And while that reunion is exciting, there’s a possibility of another, even more significant, meeting in Avengers: Secret Wars – one that would be over thirty years in the making.

Avengers: Secret Wars Just Got a Mysterious New Cast Member

The lineup for Doomsday is mostly set, with four hero teams and a main villain already confirmed, leaving little space for additional characters. However, some popular heroes like Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and Spider-Man won’t be participating. Spider-Man’s absence is understandable, as he’s currently focused on his own upcoming movie, which will involve teaming up with the Punisher and fighting the Hulk. While the details of Spider-Man: Brand New Day are still unknown, fans are much more excited about learning what role Sadie Sink will play in the film.

Ever since Sadie Sink, known from Stranger Things, joined the Brand New Day cast, fans have been guessing about who she’ll play. Many believe she might be Jean Grey or Mayday Parker, both redheads like herself. However, early photos from the set suggest she’s playing an ordinary person, not a superhero. This could be true – there are plenty of supporting characters in Spider-Man stories who don’t have powers. But another idea is that Brand New Day is just the beginning for her character, and she’ll become a hero later, possibly in the upcoming Secret Wars movie. Reports say Secret Wars will feature only characters strong enough to survive, hinting that Sink’s character will eventually embrace a heroic role.

Sadie Sink Could Be Playing a Classic Spider-Man Ally in Avengers: Secret Wars

Before Peter Parker became known in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he starred in a 1981 TV show called Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. Instead of partnering with his typical allies, Spider-Man teamed up with Iceman from the X-Men and a brand-new character named Firestar. Together, they protected the world, and Firestar quickly gained a following. She became popular enough to move from the TV show into Marvel comic books, which was a significant achievement at the time. In the comics, Marvel established her as a mutant with the power to control radiation, allowing her to join both the X-Men and the Avengers.

Firestar always cherished her friendship with Spider-Man and made time for him whenever possible. It’s been a long time since they’ve teamed up for a big adventure, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe could fix that. They could introduce her as Angelica Jones in a new story, perhaps delaying the discovery of her powers until the very end or saving it for a scene after the credits. This would allow her to return in Secret Wars fully prepared to fight alongside Spider-Man. It would also be great to see Iceman join them, bringing the beloved trio together again.

Avengers: Secret Wars hits theaters December 17, 2027.
