During an interview with TopMob about the movie, Clooney was asked how his own life compared to that of his character. He explained that, unlike Jay, who achieved early success, it took Clooney longer to establish himself in the entertainment industry.
Looking back, I figure Jay likely achieved success much earlier in his career. I, on the other hand, had already tried and failed with thirteen TV pilots and seven series before ER. ER was really what finally launched my career, so I definitely experienced a lot of setbacks along the way.
It takes a lot of auditions and small roles before an actor finds consistent work. Early in his career, George Clooney appeared in shows like The Facts of Life, The Golden Girls, Roseanne, and even a sitcom called E/R. It’s common for actors to have a string of jobs before they become well-known – David Harbour compared his own experience to Clooney’s. Despite those early challenges, Clooney now values how those experiences, and the support of his loved ones, kept him grounded.
Having experienced a lot of setbacks, I felt more ready for success. You realize failure isn’t really about you, and success isn’t entirely due to you either. It gave me a better perspective. And yes, definitely! My family – especially my two eight-year-olds – keep me grounded constantly, which is quite a handful, as you can imagine.
George Clooney and his wife, Amal, have twins. They’ve been married since 2014 and prioritize their children’s privacy. However, they seem to be very happy as a family. Interestingly, the couple enjoys watching the TV show ER together, and George jokingly revealed that Amal teased him about the character Dr. Ross’s romantic pursuits.
George Clooney has definitely achieved a lot since his early days playing a famous doctor on television. He’s become a major film star, appearing in popular movies like Out of Sight, Three Kings, the Ocean’s films, and Michael Clayton.
