It’s uncommon for a streaming service to grant its exclusive shows to a rival, especially those produced specifically for paid subscriptions. However, there are occasional exceptions. This week, one of these exceptions occurred as an Amazon original series became available on Netflix.
On Thursday mornings, Netflix made available all three seasons of the crime drama “Sneaky Pete” in the U.S. For those unfamiliar with it, “Sneaky Pete” was one of Amazon’s Prime Video service’s first original dramas. The show, co-created by David Shore, the creator of “House”, and Bryan Cranston, a star from “Breaking Bad”, premiered on Amazon in 2015. Amazon released the pilot episode that year and later ordered it for series, with the rest of the first season airing in 2017. The show ran for two more seasons before being cancelled in 2019.
Acquiring “Sneaky Pete” for Netflix’s collection marks their first attempt at broadcasting an Amazon original series. This move also presents “Sneaky Pete” with a chance to reach its largest viewer base yet, as Amazon Video was not quite the streaming giant it is now when the show initially debuted.
In the television show “Sneaky Pete,” Giovanni Ribisi plays a character named Marius Josipović, who was recently released from prison. To escape the problems that pursued him before he went to jail, Marius assumes the identity of his former cellmate, Peter Murphy, who is still in prison. The series’ co-creator, Bryan Cranston, also appears in the first season as a dangerous gangster whom Marius is trying to evade.
New on Netflix This Month
This month, Netflix is enjoying a winning streak. The debut of “Sneaky Pete” on Thursday adds to three days in a row of highly anticipated releases. On Tuesday, two seasons of the acclaimed romance drama “Sullivan’s Crossing” joined Netflix, and on Wednesday, the action-packed “Mad Max: Fury Road” became available.
These new additions to Netflix follow a large influx that occurred at the beginning of July. On the very first day of the month, Netflix introduced many titles, such as “Happy Gilmore,” “Mission: Impossible,” and “The Karate Kid.
