Wednesday season 3 has found its Aunt Ophelia – and it isn’t Lady Gaga, as some fans had predicted.
We only saw a quick glimpse of the character at the end of the latest chapter, and her face was hidden, so fans are now eagerly guessing who will play this role that’s been hinted at for a while.
I was really caught up in a popular fan theory about Lady Gaga’s character, Rosaline Rotwood, on Wednesday. Everyone thought she might secretly be Ophelia! But it looks like a new actor joining the cast has pretty much confirmed that isn’t the case, which is a little disappointing, but I’m still excited to see where the story goes.
Eva Green, known for her role in Casino Royale, is joining the cast of season 3 as Aunt Ophelia. She told Tudum she’s excited to bring her unique and quirky energy to the Addams family.
It’s not surprising to see Green cast in the role, considering her frequent work with Tim Burton, the director and executive producer of Wednesday. They’ve collaborated since 2012, starting with the film Dark Shadows.
The pair worked together again on Tim Burton’s film, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and most recently on the 2019 live-action remake of Disney’s Dumbo.
Al Gough and Miles Millar, the creators and showrunners of Wednesday, stated that Eva Green consistently delivers a captivating and unique performance, characterized by her grace, mysteriousness, and delightful unpredictability.
She’s a natural fit for Aunt Ophelia, and we can’t wait to see what she brings to the character and how she develops Wednesday’s story.

Ophelia, Morticia Addams’s sister (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones), has been seen briefly locked away in Grandmama Hester’s (Joanna Lumley) eerie house, writing a threatening message: “Wednesday must die.”
According to Gough, the return of Ophelia will be a huge shock for the family. The show intentionally hinted at her reappearance at the end of the season to surprise viewers and set up storylines for season three.
More cast members for season 3 will be announced later, but Jenna Ortega will definitely return as the main character. She’ll be joined by her co-stars Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gwendoline Christie, Luis Guzmán, and Fred Armisen.
