On November 25th, while appearing on the show What’s Your Story? With Steph McMahon, April Jeanette Mendez – better known as AJ Lee to WWE fans – revealed she’s working with Aimee Garcia to write a full-length animated movie.

You know, I’m a huge anime fan, always have been. Growing up, Toei Animation was a massive part of my childhood – shows like Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z really shaped my imagination. So, I’m incredibly excited to share that my writing partner and I are actually working on a movie with Toei Animation! That’s all I can reveal right now, but trust me, it’s a dream come true.

AJ Lee didn’t share many specifics about the movie she’s developing with Garcia, but she did enthusiastically talk about her love for anime, especially Dragon Ball Z. She described working with Toei Animation as a lifelong dream, saying it was amazing to be in their offices surrounded by Dragon Ball Z collectibles.

Following a successful career as a professional wrestler, Lee followed her passion for writing in 2017. Her first book, the memoir Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules, quickly became a New York Times bestseller. Since then, she’s expanded her creative work, co-writing projects like the GLOW vs. The Babyface comic series, inspired by the Netflix show, and the 2022 film Blade of the 47 Ronin.
