CD Projekt RED has announced its financial results for the third quarter, and Cyberpunk 2077 has reached a new sales record. The game has now sold over 35 million copies, a considerable increase from the 30 million sold a year ago. This means more than five million additional copies have been sold, either individually or as part of the Ultimate Edition.
The recent surge in positive attention for Cyberpunk 2077, including a 94% “Very Positive” rating on Steam, isn’t just due to word of mouth. The game’s release on the Nintendo Switch last June – featuring the Ultimate Edition with the Phantom Liberty expansion – played a significant role. The Switch version included features like gyro aiming, touchscreen UI controls, mouse support, and the ability to continue your progress across different platforms.
The core team is currently working on Project Orion, the next game after Cyberpunk 2077. Development began in May of last year, but don’t anticipate its release for several years – CD Projekt Red’s co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, estimates it will take four to five years to complete.
Currently, the only confirmed detail is a new city, which the game’s creator, Mike Pondsmith, calls a distorted version of Chicago. Night City still exists within the game’s universe, but it’s unclear whether players will be able to visit it.
