HBO Max Users Are Running Out of Time To Stream Some of Stephen King’s Most Iconic Movies

HBO Max subscribers don’t have much time left to watch some popular Stephen King movies. November has been a great month for fans with new episodes of the series It: Welcome to Derry and the addition of horror films like House of 1000 Corpses, The Bride of Frankenstein, and The Devil’s Rejects. However, on November 30th, four movies based on Stephen King’s work will be removed from the streaming service.

One of the most significant losses will be The Shining, a film often ranked among the greatest horror movies of all time. Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 adaptation of Stephen King’s novel is a genre classic, famous for its terrifying atmosphere at the Overlook Hotel, its intense psychological drama, and the unforgettable performances of Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance, a troubled alcoholic and writer who descends into madness, and Shelley Duvall as his wife, Wendy.

Sadly, The Shining isn’t the only Stephen King movie leaving streaming on November 30th. John Carpenter’s 1983 horror film Christine, about a haunted 1958 Plymouth Fury, is also being removed. Plus, two more films—Children of the Corn and Firestarter—are scheduled to go, both of which originally came out in 1984.

HBO Max Is Still a Treasure Trove for the Master of Horror

Losing those four films, especially The Shining, is a blow, but HBO Max still offers a lot for Stephen King fans. The service is a popular choice for horror lovers and has many other movies and shows based on King’s work.

Currently streaming on HBO Max, It: Welcome to Derry is the most talked-about new show. It delves into the backstory of the terrifying Pennywise and the town of Derry itself. This isn’t the first adaptation of Stephen King’s 1986 novel It – a miniseries from 1990 and two recent movies, It and It Chapter Two, are also available on the platform. The first season has eight episodes, with new ones released every Sunday until the finale on December 14th.

In addition to its other offerings, HBO Max features the film Salem’s Lot, a new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel about a writer who discovers vampires are taking over his hometown. You can also stream the original series The Outsider.

Where to Stream the Departing Stephen King Movies After They Leave Netflix?

It will be a bit harder to watch these four movies now that they’re leaving HBO Max, but they won’t be completely unavailable. While The Shining and Firestarter are currently exclusive to HBO Max, you can find Christine on Philo and Children of the Corn on Tubi, The Roku Channel, and Plex. All four movies are also available to rent or buy digitally. Plus, there’s a chance they’ll be added to other streaming services in December.
