This summer, we’ve got an epic clash: The King of Monsters versus the Marvel Multiverse! In the lead-up, you’ve seen Godzilla square off against Marvel’s finest in a series of prelude battles – the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and more. But that was merely the starter; the main event is Godzilla: The Devastation of the Marvel Multiverse. With every single Marvel hero conceivable joining forces to halt Godzilla’s destruction, the first line of defense comes from a super-powered team that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon know intimately.
In an exclusive first look, ComicBook presents “Godzilla Decimates the Marvel Universe” #1 by Gerry Duggan and Javier Garrón. The story kicks off in the underground domain of Mole Man, where one of his minions unearths a rare Vibranium lode mixed with unstable particles. With ambitions to rule the surface, Mole Man intends to harness this stone’s power. However, upon activating the crafted artifact, it inadvertently revives a slumbering Godzilla instead.
High up on the Baxter Building, the Fantastic Four reside. Mr. Fantastic is scrutinizing the reason behind recent earthquakes, while Johnny Storm (also known as the Human Torch) is preoccupied with securing basketball game tickets. On the other hand, Ben Grimm, or Thing, has perfected his aioli recipe. However, their peace is disrupted when a colossal Celestial breaks through the Earth’s crust, causing a strong tremor.
In simpler terms, the appearance of a Celestial usually means disaster, so having one around can’t be good. Reed Richards has long suspected that a Celestial was buried within Earth, but it wasn’t expected to wake up for nearly a million years. Something has caused it to stir prematurely. Johnny Storm flies off to divert the Celestial’s attention, and a wounded Mole Man suddenly appears, giving a warning and asking for the Fantastic Four’s assistance. “The problem isn’t the Celestial!” Mole Man exclaims. “It’s… it’s Godzilla!” The teaser for Godzilla Takes Over the Marvel Universe #1 concludes with Godzilla emerging from the Hudson River.
In simpler terms, Kristin Parcell, the head of Toho International, stated that it’s fitting to have Godzilla face off against Marvel icons as a way to mark the 70th anniversary of the ‘King of Monsters.’ By teaming up with Marvel again and integrating Godzilla into the expansive Marvel Universe, fans of both iconic franchises are promised an unprecedented, exhilarating encounter.
During my childhood, Godzilla held just as much significance for me as Marvel Comics did,” Duggan revealed. “My father used to watch baseball on TV, but I’d secretly hope for rain delays so the NYC stations would air a Godzilla movie instead. When I found out that Godzilla was part of the Marvel Universe, my passion for collecting every related comic issue became borderline obsessive! It’s unbelievable how fortunate I feel to be involved in continuing the legacy of Godzilla’s destruction within the Marvel Universe. This summer event is absolutely monumental, and everyone is joining in on the fun. Javier Garrón is producing work that surpasses his previous best, making this a comic book destined for immortality. Get ready to flee for your life this July!
It’s an incredible chance to collaborate once more with Gerry, who is not only one of the top comic writers but the ideal candidate to bring this tale to life with his daring, wild, hilarious, and epic writing style. Unleashing the King of Monsters in the Marvel Universe is significant for me, and it’s every creator’s dream to be part of a comic like this. The magnitude! The characters – everyone! The destruction – everything! It’s an unrestrained battle, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be causing chaos with Gerry and the rest of the team.
Attention New York! A once peaceful Godzilla has been furiously awakened and is causing devastation across the planet. As Earth’s strongest heroes unite to try and halt its destructive rampage, they find their combined efforts are insufficient. In a desperate bid to defeat Godzilla, they turn to Earth’s most cunning villains for help. But will this alliance be enough to stop Godzilla as it demolishes the Marvel Universe, even entering the Dark Dimension and other realms? Additionally, learn about Godzilla’s connection to the mysterious metal, Vibranium, and its impact on Wakanda. Amidst an unstoppable force of nature, the Marvel Universe must join forces like never before in this thrilling tale of Earth’s survival. The adventure begins here with the first of five electrifying chapters in this epic saga!
