In a thrilling comeback, the most iconic band to electrify a stage in the realm of G.I. Joe, is making its return. The G.I. Joe universe, a product of Skybound, Image Comics, and Hasbro’s collective efforts, has given birth to the Energon Universe – a fusion of G.I. Joe and Transformers worlds. This collaboration opens up a treasure trove of storytelling opportunities, as seen in books such as Void Rivals, Transformers, and G.I. Joe. However, an imminent one-shot is set to reintroduce a beloved aspect of G.I. Joe from the animated series that fans are eagerly anticipating.
G.I. Joe: Cold Slither #1
This one-shot is penned by Tim Seeley, known for his work on Rogue and Local Man, with artwork by Juann Cabal, who has worked on Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, coloring by Rex Lokus from Aquaman, and lettering by Pat Brosseau of Batman and Robin. The story revolves around the fictional band of Dreadnoks, a group that made an appearance in the G.I. Joe animated series. In line with its title, “Cold Slither,” this episode saw Cobra devising a plan to establish their own rock band, using covert messages to steer audiences towards sinister intentions. The comic adaptation of Cold Slither will hit shelves on October 1st.
As a film enthusiast with a deep affection for catchy tunes, especially those associated with military-themed toys, I can’t help but admit that one particular song has been stuck in my head for an astounding forty years. Now, I’m eager to share its incredible story, the tale of a motley crew of characters who brought it to life, so here it goes…
Juann Cabal shared that it was particularly meaningful for him to illustrate this one-off piece because his parents first met at a Cold Slither concert in the ’80s,” expressed Juann Cabal.
Ben Abernathy, the Executive Editor, exclaimed that describing this challenging project as a ‘labor of love’ was an understatement. Gathering this diverse group of creators for an insightful and emotional examination of the rise and fall of the iconic Cold Slither was like living out a heavy metal fantasy!
