In the summer of this year, the anime series “Dandadan” comes back for its second season, carrying forward the otherworldly journeys of the principal characters Momo Ayase and Takakura Ken. This time around, they’re accompanied by a fresh ally named Jin Enjoji, as they strive to help him get rid of the haunted residence linked to his past. The initial episode suggests that this season will delve into a more profound storyline than anticipated, one steeped in a curse dating back several decades, if not centuries, that’s associated with the Tsuchinoko house. It appears that Jin could play a pivotal role in vanquishing this ghostly menace, making him instrumental in resolving the present predicament.
In contrast to the previous episode, Dandadan Season 2 Episode 2 delves deeper by bestowing Jin with a power that significantly amplifies the series’ intensity. This episode unveils the backstory of the fearsome Evil Eye Yokai, a chilling entity stemming from a heart-wrenching folklore. The Kito family was responsible for trapping and sacrificing a child within a haunted dwelling in the past. After his untimely death, the child’s spirit lingered, evolving into a spectral being that retained the same capacity to instigate suicide, echoing the ominous Tsuchinoko snake legend. Now known as Evil Eye, it exploits Jin’s feelings and ultimately takes control of his body in the most recent episode. However, it is not the Evil Eye itself that wields immense power, but rather the individual it occupies – Jin.
The Evil Eye Possessing Jin Debuts in Latest Dandadan Episode

Right after the Evil Eye takes over Jin, it demonstrates an astonishing show of strength, surprising many who thought its power lay in making others take their own lives. Instead, we see its true might expressed through brute physical force. The Evil Eye’s relentless assault is as powerful as Okarun unleashing Turbo Granny mode, causing massive damage to the Tsuchinoko serpent and eventually forcing it to withdraw. As Momo questions how the Evil Eye could be so strong, Turbo Granny explains that Seiko had already explained the cause; this power comes from Jin himself. Growing up, Jin was a prodigy with an unusually high level of spiritual energy and immense physical strength. We later learn that the Evil Eye had been observing Jin for quite some time, drawn to his exceptional abilities.
It’s apparent that the Evil Eye possesses a power level far beyond that of both Momo and Okarun, as demonstrated by its repeated ability to strike the serpent with force comparable to Okarun’s maximum strength, which usually leaves him incapacitated for some time. This power disparity sets up an intense confrontation in the upcoming episode of ‘Dandadan’ Season 2, Episode 3, as Okarun prepares to engage the possessed Jin. The odds seem stacked against Okarun, but he may require both Momo’s aid and Jin’s internal struggle to have a fighting chance against the series’ most potent character to date.
Dandadan Season 2 is currently airing and is available to stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
