One of Steam’s Most Played Games Is Getting 3 Big Updates in 2026

Honestly, 2025 has been awesome for indie games! Yeah, everyone was talking about the big releases like Death Stranding 2 and the new Battlefield, but games like Silksong and Hades 2 really proved that smaller teams can still deliver huge hits. I’ve been totally hooked on Ball x Pit lately – it’s a roguelite brick-breaker that came out of nowhere and has already sold over a million copies in a little over a month! It’s another big win for Devolver Digital, and it’s really put the developer, Kenny Sun and Friends, on the map as one of the most creative studios around. And the best part? It looks like there’s more Ball x Pit goodness coming, which is fantastic!

To mark selling over a million copies, the creators of Ball x Pit have announced some exciting news! Kenny Sun and Friends shared that three big updates are planned for 2026. While details are still limited, the team promises new balls, ways to evolve your game, buildings, characters, and plenty of other content. Basically, you can expect even more of what makes Ball x Pit fun!

Although the exact details aren’t available yet, Kenny Sun and Friends have revealed the names of their upcoming updates. The first, called the Regal update, arrives in January and introduces sophisticated hunters. Following that, the Shadow update comes in April, bringing hunters skilled in stealth and trickery. Lastly, the Naturalist update launches in July, adding hunters focused on survival and essential skills.

As a fan, I’m really excited to hear that these three updates are going to be free for those of us who already own Ball x Pit! It’s a clever move to keep the game fresh and attract new players, too. However, it looks like these updates only cover content through the first half of 2026. While things could always be delayed, I wouldn’t be shocked if the developers planned even more content for 2026, and maybe even some paid DLC down the line.

Vampire Survivors has done incredibly well, and Ball x Pit shares a similar style. The developers of Vampire Survivors, Poncle, have consistently provided fans with free updates, while also releasing paid content that often includes collaborations or parodies of other games. While Kenny Sun and Friends haven’t announced any paid additions for Ball x Pit yet, its current popularity suggests we might see some next year.

Next year promises a lot of new Ball x Pit content. We’ll likely find out details about the Regal update soon, as it’s scheduled for release in January 2026. Knowing what’s included in Regal will give us a good idea of what to anticipate in future updates as well.
