Hidden Sentry Detail Proves He’s Even More Powerful Than We First Thought

A new book tied to the upcoming Marvel Studios film Thunderbolts reveals that the hero Sentry is even more powerful than initially believed. Actor Lewis Pullman introduces Robert Reynolds in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Thunderbolts. Reynolds, a former addict, gained incredible abilities after participating in a super-soldier experiment by the OXE Group, becoming the Golden Guardian of Good known as the Sentry. While already possessing the power of a thousand exploding suns, the book suggests his true strength goes beyond just his superhuman gifts, making him one of the MCU’s most formidable new heroes.

The official artbook for Thunderbolts, titled Thunderbolts: The Art of the Movie, provided a closer look at the Sentry’s costume. Designed by the OXE Group and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), the suit is revealed to be made of vibranium. Considering the Sentry already possesses incredible powers – including super strength, speed, healing, flight, telekinesis, and heat/telepathic abilities – this addition of vibranium makes him even more formidable and could be significant for future Marvel Cinematic Universe storylines.

How Sentry’s Vibranium Suit Makes Him Even More Powerful

Vibranium has been a key element of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since the beginning. It first appeared as Captain America’s iconic shield in Captain America: The First Avenger. Over time, the story behind vibranium has expanded – it originated as meteorites that landed on Earth long ago, enriching the plants and animals of places like Wakanda and Talokan. This unique resource is central to the powers of Black Panther and Namor, making them two of the MCU’s most important heroes.

Vibranium isn’t just important to Wakanda and Talokan; characters like Vision, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, and Bucky Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan) also rely on it – Bucky’s prosthetic arm is made of the metal. It was shocking in Thunderbolts when the Sentry ripped off Bucky’s arm, but the Sentry’s own vibranium suit may have made that possible. For a long time, vibranium has been seen as the strongest and most useful material in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it made sense for the Sentry’s costume. Now, the OXE Group might be wishing they hadn’t relied on it so much.

The movie Captain America: Brave New World revealed the existence of adamantium – the incredibly strong metal linked to characters like Wolverine and Sabretooth. Found inside the deceased Celestial Tiamut, adamantium is the most durable material discovered in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since vibranium. This is why the OXE Group might have intended to use it for the Sentry. However, giving Robert Reynolds (the Sentry) vibranium adds even more protection to his already extraordinary natural powers, solidifying his place as a major force – both heroic and potentially villainous as the Void – in the MCU.
