Fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe are eagerly anticipating the release date for The Punisher spinoff. Jon Bernthal’s complex character initially debuted in Daredevil on Netflix back in 2015. Later, he starred in his self-titled series on the same platform from 2017 until 2019.

After quite a few years, he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut with the recent reboot, Daredevil: Born Again. There are rumors of another appearance coming up in Spider-Man: Fresh Start, but first, he’s likely to appear in a standalone special event. Here’s what you should know about him.

Estimates for the release of The Punisher’s special edition suggest it will be around early 2026. This prediction comes from the fact that the character is slated to make an appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day during the latter part of the same year.

In February 2025, it was confirmed that Jon Bernthal would reprise his role as The Punisher in a unique presentation. He is also set to collaborate on the script for this project, with Reinaldo Marcus Green taking charge as director. It’s been reported that this special event will be released in 2026 together with Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again.

Based on the announcement made by showrunner Dario Scardapane, it’s likely that we might see the release of the Punisher special coincide with the arrival of the second season, which is slated for March 2026.

Back in April 2025, the showrunner Green publicly expressed his reflections about wrapping up Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again on Instagram. Additionally, he hinted at a tentative launch date for the upcoming season.

“I just posted a clip of the Daredevil finale, expressing my feelings of mixed emotions as we wrap up season one. I’m incredibly thankful to the cast, crew, and studio for their belief in us, and I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Sana, Brad, Kevin, Lou, Aaron, Justin, Charlie, Vincent, Deb, Jon, and the entire chaotic family. And yes, Season 2 is coming in March 2026! With any luck, we might see the special around that time, possibly coinciding with the release of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum revealed that the upcoming presentation will be a high-impact narrative, packed with the deep emotions characteristic of a Frank Castle tale, while still maintaining an exhilarating edge.

In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Bernthal also shared what sets this upcoming special apart from his Netflix series. He explained, “It’s going to be quite dark; Frank doesn’t have any desire to escape the darkness. It won’t be an easy ride. Rest assured, it definitely won’t be a lighter version of The Punisher.
