With 2025 ending, movie fans are already looking forward to 2026 and making lists of the films they’re most excited about. One of the biggest anticipated releases is Supergirl, the next chapter in the DC Universe. After a brief appearance of Kara Zor-El in Superman, audiences are eager for her full story – promising an exciting space adventure. Although filming finished in the spring, we haven’t seen any trailers yet. However, a release date for the first Supergirl trailer may have just been announced.
A new trailer for the Supergirl movie is expected to be released later this week, according to a report by Daniel Richtman (via Comic Book Movie). The trailer will debut at a press event today, December 7th, and will then be published online this Thursday, December 11th – following the same release strategy as last year’s first Superman trailer.
December Could Be a Huge Month for New Movie Trailers

It feels like a smart move to drop the Supergirl trailer later this month. The film is about six months out, which is the perfect time to start teasing things, and Warner Bros. clearly remembers how well the first Superman trailer performed – it shattered all their previous view records! They’re hoping for a similar buzz this holiday season. But here’s the thing: if the rumors are true, Supergirl won’t have the December spotlight all to itself. The release of Avatar: Fire and Ash could open the floodgates for trailers for all the big 2026 movies, like Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and the next Avengers film, Doomsday. It could get crowded quickly!
Although Supergirl is expected in 2026, The Odyssey and Doomsday are likely to be even bigger movie events. Releasing the Supergirl trailer now risks it being overlooked. DC Studios might be better off waiting until after December when more trailers are being released, but if they release it this month, doing so this week would be the best strategy. Being the first major trailer out would give Supergirl some time in the spotlight before the others arrive, and it could also be shown before screenings of Avatar, which is expected to be a huge box office success.
The first trailer for Supergirl will likely be short, giving viewers a general idea of the movie’s style and main story points. Since the film isn’t released until summer, the studio doesn’t need to reveal much just yet. It will be interesting to see how much they do show. The trailer will probably highlight Milly Alcock’s performance as Supergirl, promising a performance that’s both cool and funny. Fans might also get a first glimpse of Jason Momoa as Lobo, even though his role isn’t huge – his involvement is definitely one of the most anticipated parts of the movie.
Rumors suggest the upcoming Supergirl series will explain the recent changes made to Superman’s backstory regarding his father, Jor-El, and we might see this addressed in the show’s trailer. Keeping some plot details secret while emphasizing connections to a well-known movie like Superman could be a clever way to introduce the core story. While there are other trailers to anticipate this season, Supergirl’s first look promises to be particularly exciting.
