It’s officially the holiday season, and many people are probably spending evenings deciding which Christmas movie to watch. While streaming services like Netflix and Hallmark release new holiday films every year, truly great Christmas movies are surprisingly rare.
Finding a good holiday movie can be difficult with so many streaming options, but we’ve already done the research for you. We checked out the holiday selections on all the major streaming platforms and highlighted the best movies each one has to offer.
Netflix Christmas Movies
Netflix is different from many other streaming services when it comes to Christmas movies. While Last Christmas is a good pick, most of the holiday films available on Netflix are originals created specifically for the platform.

While there are many animated holiday films, Klaus from 2019 stands out as truly exceptional. It was a strong contender for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars alongside Toy Story 4, and its unique animation style is particularly impressive.
Netflix doesn’t have many true Christmas classics, but The Christmas Chronicles comes the closest. Many people watch it every year, and it has a similar adventurous spirit to movies like The Santa Clause or the live-action Grinch. For those who enjoy romantic comedies at Christmastime, Single All the Way is the best choice on Netflix.
Hulu & Disney+ Christmas Movies
Hulu and Disney+ are increasingly linked, so we’re treating them as one for this discussion. Many people subscribe to both services, and together they offer a fantastic selection of Christmas movies and shows – likely the best you’ll find anywhere in streaming.

The Disney streaming bundle is a great place to find holiday favorites like all the Home Alone movies, The Santa Clause trilogy, Jingle All the Way, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Plus, through a partnership with Hulu, you can also stream A Christmas Story, Die Hard, The Family Stone, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and a selection of beloved Christmas TV specials.
Most of the original holiday movies on Disney+ haven’t been very impressive, but Hulu has a standout film called Happiest Season. This romantic comedy features a fantastic cast, including Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, Alison Brie, Dan Levy, Aubrey Plaza, and many others. It’s a really great movie and well worth watching if you haven’t seen it yet.
HBO Max Christmas Movies
HBO Max might not have a ton of Christmas movies and shows, but it does offer many popular, newer holiday favorites.

When it comes to holiday movies, HBO Max is best known as the only streaming service where you can watch Elf. If you love the Will Ferrell classic, you won’t find it anywhere else without buying or renting it.
The service features many beloved holiday movies, including classics like Christmas Vacation, The Polar Express, and A Christmas Story. It also offers popular cult favorites such as Bad Santa and Gremlins.
Prime Video Christmas Movies
Prime Video’s selection of Christmas content is a bit unusual. While it doesn’t have as many popular titles as other streaming services, it offers a collection of unique and lesser-known holiday specials you won’t see everywhere else.

Amazon Prime Video offers a variety of holiday favorites, including the live-action version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, as well as timeless classics like It’s a Wonderful Life and White Christmas. But the real highlight of their holiday selection is the collection of special TV episodes they have available.
If you’re a comic book enthusiast, don’t miss the 2023 animated special, Merry Little Batman. The streaming service also offers classic holiday entertainment like Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas and festive episodes of The Flintstones.
Paramount+ Christmas Movies
Paramount+ doesn’t have a huge selection of truly great Christmas movies. While there are options available, finding ones that are actually worth watching can be difficult. However, the Christmas movies it does have are often exclusive and hard to find on other streaming services.

You can stream classic holiday movies like Scrooged with Bill Murray, Eight Crazy Nights starring Adam Sandler, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles on Paramount+.
Paramount also offers a wide range of holiday movies and shows on its free streaming service, Pluto TV. Along with classics like Eight Crazy Nights and Planes, Trains and Automobiles, you can find titles such as Jingle All the Way and Trading Places.
Peacock Christmas Movies
If you love the Grinch, Peacock is the place to be during the holidays! You can stream the classic animated special, the live-action movie, and the 2018 animated film, all on Peacock.
Peacock also offers beloved holiday classics like Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town, plus more recent favorites such as Rise of the Guardians and Violent Night.
