Okay, so I just saw some stuff online about a potential Shenmue 4 trailer, and it turns out it’s not official! YS Net, Yu Suzuki’s studio – the people who made Shenmue 3 – put out a statement saying they haven’t released any trailers or even marketing materials for a new Shenmue game. Basically, if you see a trailer popping up, it didn’t come from them, so don’t get your hopes up just yet!
YS Net has announced that a video circulating on social media is falsely claiming to be an official trailer for ‘Shenmue 4.’ The company confirms this video was not created by them and does not represent any official content. YS Net has not yet released any trailers, footage, or promotional materials for ‘Shenmue 4’.
The studio also stated that a video claiming to be a trailer for Shenmue 4 illegally used copyrighted material. They believe this constitutes trademark infringement and unfair competition, and they may take legal action as a result.
We’re actively working with everyone involved and getting ready to take steps to address this, which may include legal options. We deeply regret any confusion this has caused our fans and partners. We’re committed to sharing accurate information and appreciate your patience and support.
The studio’s announcement received a lot of attention online, with many fans praising their past games. However, some Shenmue fans asked the studio to avoid legal action against those who created a fan-made trailer. One fan explained that even though the trailer was fake and initially misleading, it generated excitement and renewed interest in a potential Shenmue 4, attracting media coverage and a wider audience. They argued it ultimately benefited the franchise.
The Shenmue series has a dedicated fanbase, but Shenmue 3 ended with several unresolved storylines, leaving fans hoping for a conclusion. In 2022, the creator, Yu Suzuki, said there were no firm plans for Shenmue 4. Given that was three years ago, the situation may have changed, and YS Net could be working on a new game that hasn’t been announced yet.
YS Net recently announced they’re developing Shenmue 3 Enhanced for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo consoles. Players who already own Shenmue 3 on PlayStation 4 or PC will be able to upgrade to this new version. A release date hasn’t been announced yet. Shenmue 3 Enhanced will feature improvements like more characters in Niaowu, faster loading, higher-resolution graphics, and support for technologies like DLSS and FSR.
