Star Wars is shifting its focus back to theatrical releases. While Disney+ has offered a consistent flow of Star Wars shows since 2019, the pace will decrease to just one live-action series per year. The current run of shows is concluding strongly with the release of Season 2 of the critically praised Andor in April. Some, like Star Trek‘s Bryan Fuller, believe an episode from the show was “the most important television of the year.”
The Golden Globes don’t seem to agree with Fuller’s opinion. This year, only Diego Luna received a nomination for Andor, for Best Male Actor in a Television Series. This happened before, in 2023, when Luna was the sole Andor nominee. Many feel this year’s snub is even more disappointing considering how much better Season 2 was.

Many people, not just fans, thought Andor had a good chance of winning Best Television Drama. However, the Golden Globes ultimately nominated only Diego Luna, repeating past results. Despite strong performances from the show’s acclaimed female leads and other cast members, none of them received nominations.
Despite delivering standout performances in the series ANDOR, Genevieve O’Reilly, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Elizabeth Dulau, and Faye Marsay were surprisingly overlooked by Golden Globe voters.

Season 2 of Andor has been incredibly well-received, boasting a 97% approval rating from critics and an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Because of this positive response, fans are very disappointed it wasn’t recognized with more awards.
The snub for Andor and the women performances #GoldenGlobes

Award shows have historically overlooked films in genres like science fiction and fantasy, as seen last year when Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two wasn’t recognized at the Golden Globes. Many hoped this would change, and Andor proved to be a critically acclaimed series far beyond typical blockbuster entertainment. As a result, it seemed likely to receive at least a nomination – and was potentially a strong contender to win.
Andor snub is absolutely deranged considering pluribus got it#GoldenGlobes

There’s a chance political factors are influencing the awards. Andor was always intentionally political, focusing on the struggle against fascism, and its creator, Tony Gilroy, has increasingly discussed how current events inspired the show. He even pointed out unsettling parallels between the series and real-world happenings in the US. While the Golden Globes often involves political commentary, last year’s ceremony was unusually restrained, with attendees reportedly asked to avoid making political statements. This trend might be continuing, potentially explaining why Andor didn’t receive as many nominations as expected.
Honestly, I was really hoping the Golden Globes would give Andor the recognition it deserved, more than the Emmys did. Looking back, the Emmys were actually pretty generous!

The lack of Golden Globe nominations for Andor will likely fuel further discussion about whether awards shows still matter. Many feel the Star Wars series was worthy of more recognition, and it’s frustrating that it was overlooked.
