Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Tetsuya Nomura, the creative director, recently shared in an interview with YouTuber Julien Chièze that they’re deciding on a title for the third and final game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. According to a translation by Genki_JPN, they’ve chosen between two options and expect to have the title confirmed by the end of the year.
Hamaguchi stated in a recent interview that he and Tetsuya Nomura have chosen two potential options and will make a final decision within the year. He confirmed that a choice will be made before the end of the year.
There’s been a lot of discussion about what the third game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series would be called. Following the pattern of the first two games, “Reunion” seemed like the most likely title, as it’s also a key word in the overall story. However, “Reunion” was already used for the updated version of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7. Because Crisis Core is officially part of the Final Fantasy 7 story and takes place before the Remake games, it’s unlikely the developers will use “Reunion” again for the third installment.
Since the first game in the Remake series actually included “Remake” in its title, fans have wondered if Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 might use words like “Reboot” or “Reset” to signal a major turning point and conclude the story.
Genki_JPN also shared that director Hamaguchi mentioned “Highwind” as a key element for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. Highwind is the name of the airship players use in the original Final Fantasy 7. While it hasn’t appeared in the remake trilogy yet, it’s expected to be the primary way players travel across the larger, open world in the third game.
Development on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has been ongoing for a while. According to Hamaguchi, the main gameplay portion of the third game is nearly finished. The team is now focused on improving and polishing the game to get it ready for release.
The main part of the game is nearly finished, and the team is now focusing on improvements and final touches, according to Hamaguchi. He explained that they’ll share more details about the game once they’re happy with how polished it is. He asked players to be patient, promising more information will be coming soon once the team is satisfied with the final result.
