I’m so excited! Compulsion Games just announced that South of Midnight is coming to PS5 in Spring 2026! It’s already out on Xbox Series X|S and PC, but I’ve been waiting to play it on PlayStation, and it’s finally happening!
The developer announced on social media that the game will be released for both PlayStation 5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
This is Compulsion Games’ third project. They previously created the PlayStation 4 launch game Contrast and We Happy Few.
South of Midnight is an action-adventure game set in the American Deep South, drawing inspiration from local folklore. Players take on the role of Hazel, who investigates the myths and creatures of this region within a dark and imaginative world. After a disaster hits her town, Hazel becomes a Weaver – someone with magical abilities to heal fractured connections and spirits.

When the game first launched in April 2025, it received a Metacritic score of 77. However, our partner site, Pure Xbox, enjoyed the game much more, giving it a 9 out of 10.
While the game isn’t flawless and the fighting system could be better, its incredible heart, unique style, and overall appeal make it truly captivating.
