As an avid gaming enthusiast, I’ve always been intrigued by the elusive vertical shooter game, Griffin, crafted by Telenet Japan for the Game Gear way back in 1991. This masterpiece was exclusive to Japan, a fact that left many gamers worldwide yearning for a taste of its action. But now, at long last, it’s finally making its global debut!
For a while now, Ratalaika Games has been focusing on the emulation side of their operations, and they’ve recently brought the popular retro tank shooter to both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. You can pick it up right away for just £4.99 or $5.99.
Here’s the official blurb from the press release:
A country built the Griffin combat tank in response to the increasing strength of its neighbor. Unfortunately, the lead engineer on the project was abducted during testing. In a daring move, his granddaughter takes control of the Griffin and embarks on a lone rescue mission to save her grandfather!

In line with Ratalaika Games’ classic titles, you’ll find features like rewind options, save points, filter settings for screens, and even cheat codes. Additionally, there’s a built-in jukebox allowing you to enjoy the game’s chiptune soundtrack at your leisure.
We haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but we’re thrilled that these vintage, lesser-known games are being brought back to life on contemporary devices.
Are you going to give this one a go?
