Marvel Studios Officially Confirms Its 2nd-Ever ‘Spotlight’ TV Show

Marvel Studios has identified two Disney+ shows as special “Spotlight” entries within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Beyond traditional movies and regular Disney+ series, the MCU also includes a few projects categorized as “Special Presentations” or “Spotlight” shows. These types of projects haven’t been very common recently, but there are plans to include more of them as the MCU moves into Phase 6.

Brad Winderbaum, who oversees streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, has confirmed that Wonder Man will be a “Marvel Spotlight” series. In an interview with Collider, he described it as such and expressed hope for a second season, also mentioning they are developing another special presentation.

A Collider reporter asked if Disney and Marvel plan to create more projects like ‘Werewolf by Night,’ which they particularly enjoyed. They noted that ‘Wonder Man’ will have a presentation, but wondered if there were any similar projects in the works.

Winderbaum shared that ‘Wonder Man’ is being released as a Marvel Spotlight series. They’re hoping to get a second season if it’s well-received, and they’re also planning a special presentation to be released next year that he described as very exciting.

The recent announcement confirms that Wonder Man will be Marvel’s second “Marvel Spotlight” project – a type of series first discussed in December 2023. The first project in this category was Echo, a five-episode series starring Alaqua Cox, which launched in January 2025. However, Echo didn’t perform as well as Marvel hoped, and it’s possible this led to some changes in how Marvel plans to use the Spotlight category going forward.

Scheduled to premiere on January 27, 2026, Wonder Man will kick off Phase 6 of the MCU as the first live-action series debuting on Disney+. The show stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sir Ben Kingsley, Ed Harris, Arian Moayed, Zlatko Burić, Demetrius Grosse, and Josh Gad (playing a version of himself) and follows Simon Williams as he tries to land a role in a Wonder Man movie, all while balancing his life as a superhero and navigating the world of Hollywood.

Will More Spotlight Shows Be Made for Marvel Studios?

Currently, Echo and Wonder Man are the only two Marvel Studios series classified as “Spotlight” projects. These shows were created partly to address fan weariness with the Multiverse Saga. They mainly focus on introducing new characters to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe without being essential to the main storyline, allowing existing characters to grow independently or as part of teams.

The series Wonder Man connects to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, notably bringing back Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, a character he played in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. But its main goal appears to be exploring new types of stories within the MCU, looking at how Marvel views Hollywood and what its heroes represent to people.

As a Marvel fan, I’m really excited to hear they’ve still got tons of characters in the pipeline for Disney+ shows! Things like a Nova project sound amazing. It seems like Marvel is open to giving some of these newer faces their own dedicated ‘Spotlight’ series, and they’re definitely willing to adjust their plans as we head towards the end of the Multiverse Saga. It’s a good sign they’re thinking long-term and aren’t afraid to try new things!
