With so many video games available, only a few become truly iconic and stand the test of time. It’s easy to revisit a favorite game and be surprised by how long it’s actually been around! Some games just stay popular, but these six titles are particularly remarkable – they’ll all be celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2026.
1) Pokémon GO

For a while, it seemed like everyone was playing Pokémon Go. The mobile game launched in 2016 and quickly became a global phenomenon. There were even reports of people getting into trouble – or walking into things! – because they were so focused on catching the game’s cute characters. Some players spent entire days wandering around trying to find rare Pokémon. It’s clear the game was a huge success, and with regular updates, Pokémon Go is likely to remain popular for many years to come.
2) Overwatch

Released in 2016, Overwatch quickly became a hugely popular first-person shooter. Even before it officially launched, a public beta test attracted over 10 million players, and Blizzard Entertainment has since earned billions from the game. The release of Overwatch 2 saw the original game transition into its successor, continuing to entertain a large player base. With Overwatch 3 currently in development, the Overwatch series is expected to remain popular for years to come, even as it approaches its ten-year anniversary in 2026.
3) Stardew Valley

Released in 2016, Stardew Valley quickly became a massive success and a leading title in the farm-life simulation genre. Remarkably, the entire game was created and is still updated by a single developer, Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, even ten years later – with the latest update, 1.7, announced in December 2023. Stardew Valley is a relaxing adventure game with RPG aspects where players restore an old farm and build connections within a town, all while earning money. Because it’s open-ended, you can play for as long as you like, and many players find themselves happily tending to their farms indefinitely.
4) No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky has one of the most remarkable turnaround stories in video game history. When it first launched, it was a huge disappointment to many players who were expecting a lot more. However, the developers at Hello Games didn’t give up. Over the years, they’ve consistently updated the game, adding all the features originally promised—and even many more. It’s a bit like the game was initially ‘dead on arrival,’ but has been brought back to life through constant improvements. As it continues to evolve, No Man’s Sky is attracting both returning and new players, and shows no signs of losing popularity.
5) Doom

The original Doom came out in 1993 and was followed by many sequels, including the 2016 release of Doom. This game was a major reboot of the popular first-person shooter series, marking the first significant new installment since Doom 3 in 2004. It was a huge success, revitalizing the franchise and attracting both new and returning players. Doom effectively gave new life to a long-running series, leading to a sequel and a prequel, and ensuring that the game famous for popularizing the term “deathmatch” continues to thrive even after many thought its run was over.
6) Dark Souls III

Dark Souls III is the concluding game in the popular Dark Souls series, and many fans consider it the best installment. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the original creator of the series, returned to direct this game, successfully blending beloved features with new and improved elements. The game was quickly expanded with two downloadable content packs, which were later released together as Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition. It’s a game with incredible replay value – you can easily pick it up after a break of a few years and still feel like you’re discovering something new. It’s a game that truly stays with players. Though it doesn’t feel like it, Dark Souls III will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2026.
