As a huge DC fan, I’m really excited about the upcoming Supergirl movie in 2026! The first trailer gave us a good look at what’s in store, and it seems they’re basing the story on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic run by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Basically, Supergirl steps in to help a girl named Ruthye, who’s looking for payback against a guy called Krem of the Yellow – he’s responsible for her father’s death. Apparently, Krem is a major villain for Supergirl in the comics, but she faces off against quite a few tough opponents in that storyline!
Here’s a ranking of Supergirl’s most dangerous enemies, from foes like Krem of the Yellow to those who’ve repeatedly made her life miserable.
5) Krem of the Yellow

The DC Universe is introducing Krem of the Yellow as Supergirl’s initial foe in the new film series. He’s a hired gun responsible for the death of Ruthye’s father, which led her to seek out a bounty hunter to eliminate him. When he came after Ruthye, he defeated both Supergirl and Krypto – the planet’s lack of a yellow sun weakened them – and then allied himself with the Barbond’s Brigands, a group attacking planets and committing genocide, significantly increasing his power.
Krem came close to defeating both Krypto and Supergirl in the story. He pushed Supergirl to her limits, trapping her on a planet with a red sun and deadly creatures. However, Krem relied on these tactics and his gang, the Brigands, just to stand a chance against Supergirl – without them, he wouldn’t be a threat compared to her most powerful enemies.
4) Emerald Empress

Sarya, also known as the Emerald Empress, is an alien from the planet Venegar. She began her career as a hero, joining forces with Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes to defeat the Sun-Eater. But after that crisis ended, she became a villain and created the Fatal Five, alongside members like Tharok, Validus, Mano, and the Persuader. Following Tharok’s death, Sarya set her sights on universal conquest.
Supergirl intervened when the Emerald Empress attacked a Legion cruiser, sparking a conflict between them. Eventually, the Empress discovered a prophecy stating Supergirl would be her downfall, so she began rebuilding the Fatal Five with the goal of eliminating Supergirl. The Emerald Empress doesn’t have any inherent superpowers, but she wields the Emerald Eye of Ekron – a powerful, mind-controlled artifact that grants her abilities like energy blasts, flight, and the ability to survive in space.
3) Superwoman

While several characters have been known as Superwoman in DC Comics, this version is Lucy Lane, Lois Lane’s younger sister. She became Superwoman during the “War of the Superman” hoping to step out of her sister’s shadow, and she took on the role while working for her father, General Samuel Lane.
Lucy disguised herself as a Kryptonian to get onto New Krypton. Magic gave her powers that mimicked a Kryptonian’s, and also shielded her from Kryptonite. But Lucy became dangerous and started killing people, which Supergirl noticed. Superwoman’s abilities come from her suit, and Supergirl was finally able to defeat her after damaging it, though it was a difficult fight.
2) Reign

Reign is a villain from the TV show Supergirl, which is part of the Arrowverse. In the DC Comics universe, she’s a powerful biological weapon originally created on the planet Krypton, known as a Worldkiller. She was one of five Worldkillers who managed to survive Krypton’s destruction, and they traveled across the galaxy searching for their purpose.
Reign first appeared in the Supergirl comic book series in 2012. Still searching for Krypton, she tracked Supergirl to the ruins of Argo City and nearly killed her when she refused to reveal information about her origins. Reign came to Earth with the intention of conquering it, but Supergirl intervened and fought alongside others against Reign and her group, the Worldkillers. The battle ended in a stalemate, with Reign retreating and vowing to return and complete her mission.
1) Brainiac

As a huge Superman and Supergirl fan, I’ve always found Brainiac to be a fascinating villain. It’s cool how his story connects both heroes, especially because of what he did with Kandor – he actually captured the whole city and kept it as a collectible! And get this – it was Supergirl who first showed Superman the truth about Brainiac. For years, Superman was only dealing with Brainiac’s robots and experiments, completely unaware that the real Brainiac was in a sort of hibernation pod for over three centuries! It adds so much depth to his character, knowing he was lurking in the background all that time.
In DC Comics, Supergirl and Superman teamed up to defeat Brainiac and liberate Kandor, which eventually led to the founding of New Krypton. Brainiac was Supergirl’s most dangerous enemy, as he held her home city captive. It ultimately took a combined effort from Supergirl, Superman, the Legion of Super-Heroes, and General Zod to finally defeat him.
