Johnny Depp’s New Scrooge Movie Is Lining Up His Best Co-Star Ensemble In Ages

Ever since the highly publicized trial concluded in June 2022, Johnny Depp appears poised for a comeback in Hollywood. He’s already finished filming a new movie, Day Drinker, and is now working with acclaimed horror director Ti West on a modern take of A Christmas Carol. I’m particularly excited to see Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge, and the supporting cast he’s working with is arguably the strongest group of actors he’s collaborated with in a long time.

Johnny Depp is known for appearing in popular ensemble films like the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Alice in Wonderland, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Now, his upcoming holiday film is generating similar excitement. Deadline reports that Daisy Ridley and Rupert Grint have joined the cast of Ti West’s Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, adding to an already impressive lineup of actors.

  • Ian McKellen
  • Daisy Ridley
  • Rupert Grint
  • Sam Chaflin
  • Charlie Murphy
  • Andrea Riseborough
  • Tramell Tillman
  • Ellie Bamber
  • Arthur Conti

It’s great to see so many actors I recognize involved in this new version of A Christmas Carol, and I’m really looking forward to it! Ian McKellen is famous for his work with Shakespeare and his ability to make characters feel real. Although we don’t know what role he’ll play, I can easily imagine him as one of the ghosts – perhaps even Jacob Marley – who helps Scrooge realize his mistakes.

Daisy Ridley would be a fantastic choice for the role, bringing the star power she demonstrated as Rey in the Star Wars films. She has a natural authority combined with a warmth that connects with viewers. Similarly, British actors like Sam Claflin and Andrea Riseborough have proven they can portray relatable, imperfect characters that audiences genuinely support.

I’m really pleased Rupert Grint is joining the Christmas movie! He’s known for starting as a child actor in the Harry Potter films, but he’s since taken on darker, more unsettling roles in shows like Servant on Apple TV+ and the film Knock at the Cabin. According to sources at Deadline, Grint might play Bob Cratchit, Scrooge’s kind and dedicated employee. That makes sense, as Grint seems to be the right age for the part and has a naturally good-hearted presence, which is how Cratchit is usually portrayed.

Although A Christmas Carol is famous for Ebenezer Scrooge’s dramatic change, it also features many important supporting characters. It makes sense that the director, West, would want talented actors to play those roles. With such a strong cast, I believe they’ll work well with Johnny Depp and create a memorable version of the classic Charles Dickens story.

Whether this movie will be a success remains to be seen, but it’s currently a significant step forward for Johnny Depp as he returns to Hollywood. We’ll have to wait and see how director Ti West’s creative ideas come to life and how Depp and the rest of the cast perform. Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol will be released in theaters on November 13th, as part of the 2026 film lineup.
