Now that the anime series My Hero Academia has finished, a new show is planned to take its place. For nearly ten years, viewers have followed Izuku Midoriya, known as Deku, a boy without superpowers in a world where most people have them. But after more than 170 episodes and four movies, the story of My Hero Academia has come to a close.
The eighth season of My Hero concluded the main story on December 13th in Japan. But don’t worry, the series creator is already planning more content for fans, which is expected to be released next year.
The trailer for Season 2 of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is out now, confirming the spin-off series will premiere in January. It will debut in Japan on Monday, January 5, 2026, and will be available to stream on Crunchyroll in Western regions on the same day.
Vigilantes is a new anime series that takes place in the same universe as My Hero Academia. It centers around Koichi Haimawari, a powerful vigilante who uses his abilities to protect people, even though he doesn’t have an official hero license.
If you’re a fan of My Hero Academia and want more stories set in that universe, Vigilantes is a great choice. It takes place in the same timeline as the original series and actually gives you a glimpse into the world before the events of My Hero Academia begin, offering some helpful backstory.
The anime series Vigilantes premiered earlier this year, adapting the manga (which began in 2016) for the first time. A second season of Vigilantes is scheduled to return in January 2026, along with several other popular anime series.
