Every Moon Knight Identity, Ranked by Power

Moon Knight has evolved significantly since his debut in 1975’s Werewolf by Night #32. Initially, he was presented as a mercenary who adopted various personas to complete his assignments. He operated using multiple identities: the wealthy Steven Grant, who funded his activities, and Jake Lockley, a cab driver who gathered information discreetly. Behind these masks was Marc Spector, a CIA-trained mercenary, and his heroic alter ego, Moon Knight. Over time, Marvel revised this concept, establishing that Steven Grant and Jake Lockley weren’t just disguises, but separate personalities stemming from Marc Spector’s dissociative identity disorder.

Moon Knight isn’t one person, but several distinct identities, or alters, each with their own unique abilities – and some are more formidable than others.

5) Jake Lockley

Initially, Jake Lockley was a persona Moon Knight used for street-level investigations. Working as a cab driver allowed him to gather information Marc Spector or Steven Grant couldn’t access. Jake was also more rugged and wasn’t afraid to fight when necessary.

Jake Lockley is a skilled fighter, which is helpful, but he’s also not afraid to use any means necessary when fighting, especially since he works on the streets. What really sets Jake apart is his talent as a detective. His streetwise personality is particularly valuable when investigating the criminal underworld, as he has the most experience navigating it.

4) Steven Grant

Steven Grant isn’t the strongest fighter among the Moon Knight personas, but he’s the wealthiest. He actually funded the entire Moon Knight operation when it began. All of Moon Knight’s equipment, vehicles, and travel costs were originally covered by Grant’s personal fortune.

Money isn’t the defining characteristic of Moon Knight’s heroism, but it definitely helps him save the world. As we’ve seen with heroes like Batman and Iron Man, significant wealth allows them to consistently have the resources they need to succeed and stay prepared.

3) Marc Spector

Marc Spector is generally considered the strongest of Moon Knight’s different identities. This is because he existed as Marc before becoming Moon Knight, and all of his combat abilities stem from Spector’s past training. Before he was a superhero, Marc Spector had experience as a boxer, a U.S. Marine, and a mercenary.

Marc is incredibly skilled in combat, a master of martial arts, and an athlete at the peak of his game, with Olympic-level training in acrobatics and gymnastics. The CIA further honed his abilities, making him a deadly marksman and weapons expert, even training him in assassination techniques for missions. When it comes to a fight, Marc Spector – any of his different personas – is capable of defeating almost any opponent.

2) Mr. Knight

Okay, so as a huge Moon Knight fan, I’m really fascinated by Mr. Knight. He’s the latest personality to emerge, and honestly, he feels less like a typical ‘alter’ and more like a completely separate person. The big difference is this: while Moon Knight is, you know, Moon Knight, Mr. Knight actually works as a detective in Manhattan. He’s dedicated to keeping the city safe, and that includes dealing with a surprisingly large vampire problem trying to take over. It’s a cool twist!

Mr. Knight has a new look and approach. He now wears a white suit with his mask and travels in a customized limousine instead of a helicopter. He’s broken away from Khonshu and started the Midnight Mission, offering help to anyone in need. While he’s lost some of Moon Knight’s abilities without Khonshu, he remains a skilled detective and a formidable fighter.

1) Moon Knight

The strongest form of Moon Knight is arguably the original Moon Knight persona. While Mr. Knight focuses on investigation and has distanced himself from the god Khonshu, Moon Knight is a fierce and relentless fighter. He’s willing to go to extreme lengths to stop criminals, even resorting to violence that most heroes avoid, which sometimes puts him at odds with other superheroes.

Moon Knight gains his powers from the Egyptian god Khonshu, becoming stronger as the moon waxes. Khonshu also boosts his mental abilities, effectively turning him into a divine weapon. Because Khonshu brought him back to life, Moon Knight is nearly immortal, which makes him incredibly resilient in a fight. Combined with his Kevlar suit and extensive arsenal, these abilities make Moon Knight a particularly dangerous and effective antihero.
