Be warned: this article reveals major plot points from the One Piece manga! The exciting flashback in the Elbaph Arc is wrapping up, finally revealing what really happened to Harald. What started as an explanation for the death of the beloved king has become a much larger story, detailing Harald’s life, the events at God Valley, and the destiny of Rocks D. Xebec. Throughout the arc, we’ve seen Loki, Harald’s son, imprisoned for patricide. Though sentenced to a fate in the Underworld by his fellow Giants, the truth about the past is far more shocking than anyone could have imagined.
Just before Loki remembered the past, he pleaded his innocence, visibly upset. Only Loki and Jarul, a hero from Elbaph, knew what really happened. Now, with the Holy Knights attacking the island and endangering the children, Loki and his brother, Hajrudin, need to overcome their differences and work together to fight the villains. It was previously revealed that Harald, despite years of dedicated service, was betrayed by the World Government, which led to his son ultimately causing his death.
One Piece Confirms The Tragic Reason Harald Died At Loki’s Hands

Harald dedicated his life to pleasing the World Government, always doing whatever they asked. He swallowed his pride and would have given anything – even his life – to create a better future for his people. Sadly, his devotion was repaid with a terrible betrayal: Imu gave him immortality, but only to control him as a puppet.
The world’s hidden ruler had long planned to destroy Elbaph, and they believed controlling Harald was the key. Unable to control his own actions, Harald, with his immense strength, accidentally killed several guards at Aurust Castle. When Loki and Jarul arrived, they realized there was no way to save him.
Harald, fearing both death and insanity, pleaded with Loki to eat a powerful, mythical fruit. He believed this would give Loki the strength to end his life, framing Loki as a hero who overthrew a cruel ruler and rescued the kingdom. Harald was willing to be seen as a villain if it meant his son could become king and save the people. Though Loki was forced to kill Harald, he struggled to view his father as a villain, acknowledging the sacrifices Harald had made for the country.
