It appears a new Spyro the Dragon game is in development, according to a source at Activision. After a 20-year gap, with the last major release being The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon in 2008 (aside from the 2018 Spyro Reignited Trilogy remaster), fans have consistently asked for a new installment. Now, it seems Activision might finally be answering those calls.
YouTuber Canadian Guy Eh recently noticed that former Toys For Bob artist Donald Yatomi had mentioned working on the Spyro franchise on his LinkedIn profile. Yatomi, who left the company in 2024 as a Senior Concept Artist, specified that Spyro and Call of Duty were his main projects. While he didn’t share specifics about his work, the mention hints that Toys For Bob is currently developing a new Spyro game. Yatomi has since removed the reference to Spyro from his LinkedIn profile after fans pointed it out.
Is This a New Spyro Game or Something Else?
It’s not surprising to hear rumors that Toys For Bob is working on a new Spyro game, as reports have been circulating about this for a while. The big question now is what kind of game it will be. It could be a completely new installment in the main Spyro series, but it’s also possible they’re creating another remastered collection like the Reignited Trilogy, or even a spin-off title that takes the franchise in a different direction. While a spin-off would be unexpected, it’s definitely a possibility.
It’s important to remember that even if Yatomi contributed to Spyro games while at Toys For Bob, the company’s plans may have evolved since he left. He departed in March 2024, meaning he hasn’t worked there for nearly two years. It’s currently unclear if the Spyro project he was involved with is still in development.
Right now, all we can do is be patient and hope Activision decides to revive the Spyro the Dragon series with a major new release. We’re hoping 2026 will finally be the year Spyro makes a comeback.
