7 Great TV Shows That Ended In 2025

2025 was a fantastic year for entertainment, with many movies and TV shows leaving a lasting impression – either by offering something fresh and surprising, or by successfully meeting fans’ expectations. Like every year, though, 2025 also saw the conclusion of several shows alongside all the exciting new releases. Some were cut short, while others ended as planned, but they’ll all be missed by viewers.

Here are 7 of the most popular TV shows that finished airing in 2025, according to our ComicBook readers. We know many excellent shows concluded this year, but this list highlights the ones our audience loved the most. While shows like Netflix’s Sandman, Amazon’s Upload, and Netflix’s You all ended in 2025, we felt other series were more deserving of a spot in our Top 7. See which shows made the list below!

Honorable Mention: Marvel Zombies

It’s quite a twist that Marvel Zombies—a show about the undead—has unexpectedly become a hit! Originally intended as a limited series, the animated show exceeded all expectations in terms of viewers, and now a second season is reportedly being considered.

With so much excitement for a potential Season 2, it’s clear Marvel Zombies is more than just a limited series. Even though a second season isn’t officially confirmed, news of its cancellation would be devastating for fans, just like the end of any favorite show.

7) Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur

When Marvel released projects after Avengers: Endgame, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur wasn’t the one most fans expected to love, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The show centers on Lunella Lafayette (voiced by Diamond White), a brilliant young Black girl living in New York City. Through a science experiment gone awry, Lunella brings a Tyrannosaurus Rex to the present day. Teaming up with the dinosaur, who she calls “Devil Dinosaur,” Lunella becomes the superhero Moon Girl. Her adventures take her across time and space, introducing her to powerful beings like the Beyonder, and eventually leading to a position with S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur was a show created for younger viewers, and importantly, it celebrated characters of color. The series was allowed to complete its planned storyline, showing Lunella’s growth into a confident superhero with adventures beyond her community. Now, it’s available for anyone to enjoy on Disney+.

6) Dexter: Original Sin

Showtime and Paramount have been actively building upon the success of the Dexter franchise, and one way they did this was with a prequel series called Original Sin. The show explored Dexter Morgan’s youth, focusing on how he first learned to control his violent urges and attempt to channel them for good. A challenging part of this was casting a new actor, Patrick Gibson, to play a younger version of Dexter – a character so closely associated with Michael C. Hall.

Jimmy Gibson proved himself through his acting, and Dexter: Original Sin successfully brought back a lot of the enjoyment for Dexter fans. It suggested the series had potential for improvement. That’s why it was unexpected when the second season of Original Sin was canceled. Ultimately, Michael C. Hall’s return in Dexter: Resurrection retconned Original Sin, presenting it as a dream sequence Dexter experienced while in a coma.

5) Solar Opposites

After the huge popularity of Rick and Morty, many viewers wondered if co-creator Justin Roiland could repeat that success with his new show, Solar Opposites. The series proved he could – blending his signature quirky humor and dark outlook (similar to Rick and Morty) with surprisingly warm family dynamics. The show centers around a family of aliens who flee their dying planet and land on Earth, quickly becoming fascinated with the planet and especially American culture.

Solar Opposites cleverly satirized American culture through the eyes of alien visitors. Beyond that, the show featured a surprisingly detailed and epic story within the show – a miniature dystopian world created inside an elaborate ant farm built into the characters’ bedroom wall. Interestingly, the series handled the departure of co-creator Justin Roiland better than Rick and Morty, successfully replacing his voice acting with Dan Stevens instead of attempting an imitation.

People are now comparing Rick and Morty to Solar Opposites in the same way they once compared Family Guy to American Dad. That really sums it up.

4) Peacemaker

James Gunn had a strong year in 2025, successfully launching a new Superman film and establishing a connected DC Universe by linking it to the second season of his Peacemaker series. However, things ended on a disappointing note, as the Peacemaker Season 2 finale received significant criticism and left the fate of the characters unclear.

It appears the original run of “Peacemaker” has concluded. While the main characters might return, they could appear in a new series focused on the “Checkmate” organization, or in other future DC Universe projects.

3) The Handmaid’s Tale

After six seasons, The Handmaid’s Tale concluded in 2025, arguably at the time when viewers were most invested in the story. The series, starring Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne, powerfully depicted themes of loss, oppression, escape, and ultimately, revolution. The ending felt fitting, staying true to Margaret Atwood’s original novel while also developing its own unique story and message. Widely considered one of the best TV shows of the 2010s and 2020s, The Handmaid’s Tale is available to stream on Hulu.

2) Cobra Kai

Netflix surprised everyone by reviving the classic Karate Kid story and bringing back its original stars. While it seemed risky to build a series around older versions of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence – played by Ralph Macchio and William Zabka – the show Cobra Kai became a huge success. Over six seasons, it not only brought the Karate Kid franchise back to life but also inspired a new wave of martial arts enthusiasts. The complete series is now available on Netflix, and is followed by a spin-off movie, Karate Kid: Legends, which is also streaming.

1) Andor

The series Andor significantly boosted the reputation of the Star Wars franchise, exceeding expectations much like Cobra Kai did. Andor tells the origin story of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), showing his transformation from a man driven by revenge into a key Rebel spy – the same spy who ultimately risked everything to steal the plans for the Death Star, as seen in the film Rogue One. But over its two seasons, creator Tony Gilroy went far beyond a simple adventure story, crafting a complex exploration of how fascism gradually undermines and ultimately destroys a democratic government.

Beyond its entertainment value, Andor powerfully showed everyday people that they have a responsibility to resist tyranny and injustice, even when facing difficult and dangerous consequences. The show’s success was recognized with five Emmy Awards, reinforcing why Star Wars remains a beloved and significant part of popular culture.
