One Of The Best Horror Sequels Of 2025 Just Arrived In December (And No, It’s Not Five Nights At Freddy’s 2

2025 has been an incredible year for horror fans. Each month brought successful films, starting with Companion and The Monkey in January and February, continuing through 28 Years Later and Together in June and July, and including Black Phone 2 and Predator: Badlands in October and November. Thankfully, the year isn’t ending without a strong finish, and fans have more to look forward to than just Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

We need to talk about writer/director Kurtis David Harder’s Influencers.

Last year, I enthusiastically recommended the horror film Influencer – and its predecessor – using TopMob’s list of top horror movies. If you haven’t seen the first one, you’re missing out on a truly clever and unsettling film! You really should watch it before diving into the new sequel, which just came to Shudder. It’s not only one of the best horror sequels of the year, but it’s easily one of my favorite movies of 2025.

Giving away too much of the plot would spoil it for new viewers, but the central mystery of both films revolves around Cassandra Naud. She’s a compelling killer with a unique and disturbing method. Attractive, calm, and mysterious, she’s a skilled con artist who targets and charms superficial social media influencers she meets while traveling. After gaining their trust, she leads them into a deadly trap, and then cleverly covers her tracks using her computer expertise.

I’m completely captivated by these films! What’s amazing is how they offer a really clever critique of society without ever feeling cruel. It’s a wild ride because you’re constantly questioning what’s right and wrong. The main character, CW, is definitely a psychopath and seems to love causing trouble, but the filmmakers, Harder and Naud, are so skilled. They tap into something dark within me, and I find myself involuntarily smiling as she cleverly avoids disaster and keeps her twisted games going. It’s messed up, but brilliantly done.

It sounds strange to say, but the most compelling part of this story is creating a situation where the main character is almost caught… then somehow manages to get away. This element is central to Influencer, and it’s even more effective in Influencers, as the story pairs the protagonist with a powerful adversary, bringing their journeys to a dramatic and intense conclusion.
