Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Lose 11th Publicist In Five Years

Meredith Maines, the main spokesperson for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, is stepping down after only a year on the job. This makes her the eleventh publicist to leave the couple in the past five years.

As reported by Us Weekly, Meghan Markle’s Chief Communications Officer (CCO), Maines, is leaving her position, which she started earlier in the year. While working with Method Communications, a PR firm based in the U.S., the Sussexes reportedly ended their business relationship with the company after seven months.

Maines is leaving her position to start a new job next year. In a statement, she thanked the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as their team, and praised their work, despite rumors about challenges in working with them.

In 2026, I’ll be starting a new job after a wonderful year working with Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and their organization, Archewell. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and have deep respect for them and the important work they do.

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has confirmed they’ve finished working with public relations firm, Method Communications, and its founder, Maines. The couple shared a statement expressing their appreciation for their previous work together and wishing them well in the future. You can read their full message below:

Meredith Maines and Method Communications are no longer working with Archewell. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have expressed their gratitude for the team’s work and wish them all the best in the future.

James Maines is leaving his role, following the departure of the Sussexes’ communications director, Emily Robinson, who resigned in October after only a few months. Robinson had joined the team in June, after working on Meghan Markle’s Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, and reports suggest she left voluntarily.

Meghan Markle has often been accused of being a challenging person to work with. In 2021, The Times of London published a report detailing allegations that she mistreated staff while living at Kensington Palace, claiming some were humiliated and left feeling deeply upset.

A recent report from NewsNation in 2024 revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have seen 18 employees leave their positions in the U.K. and U.S. since the founding of the Archewell Foundation in 2020. According to one source, the high staff turnover is due to a difficult work environment, with claims that Markle was “unbearable” and “condescending.”

With Love, Meghan can be streamed on Netflix.
