The Mighty Nein is quickly becoming a standout fantasy show in 2025, and the spin-off from Legend of Vox Machina has delivered consistently good episodes in its first season. While most episodes are strong, some are particularly memorable due to their high stakes, emotional impact, or both. The show’s format of 40-minute episodes, compared to the 30-minute episodes of Legend of Vox Machina, has likely played a role in its success. The complex political storylines and the realistically flawed characters also contribute, and each episode effectively builds upon both of these elements.
Now that Season 1 of The Mighty Nein has finished, we’ve ranked all eight episodes from strongest to weakest. A second season is already planned, and it’s likely to be even better – especially since the first season really hit its stride towards the end. The finale sets things up perfectly for a strong Season 2. Be warned: This contains spoilers for all episodes of The Mighty Nein Season 1!
8) “Mote of Possibility” (Episode 1)

The new series starting with The Mighty Nein gets off to a promising beginning, though the first episode isn’t as strong as those that follow. As an introduction, it has to establish the world and its complex politics, which means a lot of information is thrown at the viewer right away. While the story quickly establishes high stakes, understanding everything isn’t possible until later. The episode focuses heavily on explaining the Luxon Beacon, Volstruckers, and Kryn Dynasty, leaving little time to fully introduce all the characters. It primarily follows Caleb, Nott, and Beauregard. Their interactions are funny, but compared to episodes that feature the entire group, this one doesn’t quite measure up. (However, even the first episode includes some exciting action sequences.)
7)”Who Will You Be?” (Episode 2)

Season 1, Episode 2 of The Mighty Nein is a slight improvement over the first episode, but still has some of the same issues. The story is still being set up, making it difficult to compare to later episodes. While we meet two interesting new characters, Fjord and Jester, the episode struggles to balance their introductions with what’s happening with Caleb, Nott, and Beauregard. Luckily, Jester’s likable personality and her instant connection with Fjord, along with some touching moments with Essek and between Caleb and Nott, help make up for this. Though it doesn’t have as much action as the premiere, “Who Will You Be?” does a better job of making viewers care about the characters and their journeys, as they really begin to develop their personalities.
6) “The Fletching & Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities” (Episode 3)

Episode 3 of The Mighty Nein Season 1 really brings the characters together, building on what worked in the first two episodes and surpassing them both. Starting the episode by introducing Mollymauk is a great decision – he’s one of the most interesting new members of the group. This makes the introduction to the carnival engaging, even though we haven’t had much time to connect with it yet. The quieter scenes between the characters help us get to know them, which makes the exciting and chaotic ending even more intense. By the time the monster attacks, we’re genuinely worried about the characters and want them to succeed. Seeing them work together to defeat it is really satisfying, and it shows how well the earlier episodes established their relationships. Even though their interactions become more complex later on, their initial clashes in this episode are still fun to watch.
5) “The Mighty Nein” (Episode 4)

The fourth episode of The Mighty Nein‘s first season perfectly balances comedy and heartfelt drama. It starts with the funny jail scenes seen in the show’s preview and ends with a tragic event that really shows how much we care about these flawed characters. This episode feels like a key moment, as it’s the first time the group truly has to cooperate. While self-preservation is still a strong motivator for many of them, the death of Toya reveals a hidden goodness within them all. The fight with the Nergaliid is exciting and emotionally impactful, and the dynamic between Essek and Trent is wonderfully suspenseful. While later episodes are even more intense, this one stands out as a strong mid-season highlight.
4) “Belonging” (Episode 7)

Episode 7 of The Mighty Nein Season 1, titled “Belonging,” is a turning point for the group. Before this episode, the characters were only working together for personal gain, which led them to split up after a heist in Episode 6. However, they quickly realize they’ve become close, making their goodbyes difficult. True to form, they reunite by the end of the episode. While the separation makes this episode a little harder to follow than some of the strongest ones, seeing Jester and Nott cause mischief is a standout moment. The episode features important character growth, but it’s the team’s adventures together that really shine. A darker turn in Essek’s storyline also contributes to why this episode ranks among the best of the season.
3) “Many Gifts” (Episode 6)

I’m a big fan of heist stories, and Season 1, Episode 6 of The Mighty Nein delivers a really enjoyable one. The group travels to Zadash where a mysterious man called The Gentleman hires them to steal a treasure, offering protection in return. The problem? It’s locked away in a very secure, and therefore dangerous, place. What makes it even more compelling is that the team members don’t fully trust each other, creating a lot of tension. The suspense of the heist, combined with the characters’ internal conflicts, will keep you hooked. It’s great to see them start building trust after the events of the previous episode. The episode also dramatically raises the stakes in the conflict between the Kryn Dynasty and Dwendalian Empire, with a powerful use of the Luxon Beacon, leaving Essek’s storyline on a particularly suspenseful cliffhanger. While exciting, it’s not quite as intense as a couple of other episodes in the season.
2) “A Little Spark” (Episode 5)

Okay, let me tell you about Episode 5 of The Mighty Nein. This one really dives deep into Caleb’s past, and it’s intense. The team captures an enemy, Owelia, and questioning her quickly reveals some unsettling parallels between her and Caleb – they both studied under the same cruel man, Trent Ikithon. This understandably causes friction within the group, especially with Beau. We get some powerful flashbacks showing the horrific trauma Trent inflicted on Caleb, forcing him to commit an unthinkable act. The episode culminates in a truly heartbreaking scene where Caleb, overwhelmed by his pain, loses control and kills Owelia. It’s a visually stunning and brilliantly acted moment that really highlights the complex layers of these characters. It’s a dark episode, no doubt, but a fantastic one – easily one of the strongest of the season, second only to the finale.
1) “The Zadash Job” (Episode 8)

The first season of The Mighty Nein ends on a high note – and that’s a good sign for what’s to come! The finale, “The Zadash Job,” expertly ties up all the loose ends from the previous episodes, giving each character and storyline a satisfying conclusion. The episode is incredibly suspenseful as the group attempts a daring heist to steal the Luxon Beacon, especially with the added complications of Trent Ikithon and the Kryn Dynasty. The action is fantastic, beautifully animated, and creates a truly exciting climax. We also see the group’s strong bond and how much they’ve grown. Ending with the team possessing the Beacon and Yasha lost sets up a compelling beginning for Season 2. If the first seven episodes haven’t hooked you yet, this finale will definitely make you want to keep watching.
