Influencer Melissa Mae Carlton’s Daughter Dies One Year After Sister

Melissa Mae Carlton is mourning a tragic loss.

The influencer announced the heartbreaking loss of her younger daughter, Molly, on December 25th. This news comes just a year and a half after the death of her older daughter, Abigail, who passed away from sepsis at age 9 in April 2024.

Melissa shared on Instagram that her daughters, Molly and Abi, were happily reunited on Christmas morning. She said this reunion was the only thing bringing her comfort, as Molly had greatly missed her sister.

Melissa shared that she and her husband, Tom Carlton, along with their children, Harry and Lily, were completely heartbroken and shocked by the news.

She described feeling completely drained and deeply upset after a devastating day. She said she felt numb and couldn’t believe what had happened, admitting she wasn’t prepared to cope with such intense pain.

I just wanted to share a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has sent prayers and kind thoughts to my family and me. We are so grateful for your support, and honestly, we’re going to need it in the coming weeks as we navigate everything ahead. There’s a lot to figure out and organize, and we’re leaning on all the love and strength we can get. Your continued support means the world to us.

“I am scared of what life looks like now for us,” she said. “I am heartbroken for our children.”

Melissa remembered Harry telling her, while crying, that Molly had confessed she wanted to be with Abi on the plane ride to Arizona on Monday. He said, through tears, “She got what she wanted.”

In an update, Melissa explained that doctors suspect Molly died from a genetic heart condition, and they think Abigail may have had the same condition. They didn’t have a definite diagnosis for Molly’s cause of death, but that’s their current belief.

She explained that they had a better understanding of what was happening with Molly because she was monitored in the hospital, something they couldn’t do for Abi. She admitted she’d always been unhappy with the explanations they received about Abi’s condition. Doctors had told them that even a small illness could potentially cause a sudden heart problem with this type of condition.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve learned that Molly’s heart condition is incredibly serious. Doctors told her family that most people don’t survive the type of cardiac event she went through – it’s a truly remarkable story that she’s still with us.

She expressed hope that they would soon have more information and planned to conduct further genetic testing, now that they had a promising new direction for their research.
